Where it goes

Is Forgotten Armory: Gothic style required on the client, server, or both?

It must be installed on the client. Installation on the dedicated server is optional.

Client Required
Dedicated server Optional
Loader for this release Built-in Vintage Story mod system
Required install it here Optional supported, not mandatory Not supported do not install here Source doesn’t say do not assume

This release supports both sides, but the source does not require it on the server.

What else does Forgotten Armory: Gothic style 2.1.1 need?

2.1.1. Change the file and its required mods may change too.

1 required mod needs a matching file

Install Forgotten Armory: Core, Attribute Rendering Library first, but 1 required mod has no matching file for this setup. Do not mix loader builds to force a match.

We only count dependency files that match this setup. A file for another loader does not fill the gap.

About this project

What does Forgotten Armory: Gothic style add?

Before the calamity. Before the rot set in. Before the Blackguards and the Forlorn Hope marched.
There was an age of wealth and power — master craftsmen forged blades fit for kings, knights grew fat on coin and blood, women wove their own webs of influence, and lords ruled with iron hands.
Wars raged in the name of the king, calling the boldest and the strongest to seize glory — or die chasing it.
That meant every blacksmith, craftsman, and worker strove to give their best. The most skilled members of the guilds approached the status of scholars and devoted their entire lives to perfecting the crafts they were so deeply committed to.

In these times, armors of unquestionable quality appeared, forged with techniques that only the greatest of masters could replicate.
All of this, of course, is now lost to time.
What remains are a few forgotten scrolls, passed down through generations scarred by hardship and suffering, now left to rot on dust-choked shelves and in the deepest shadows of abandoned strongholds.
Only a handful of these schematics survived the devastating scourge of rot, scattered across the broken world — waiting to be unearthed, claimed, and brought back to glory!
The forge of excellence and perfection awaits you — step forward, and let your hands reignite the flame that shapes destiny.

Gothic armor set wideshot

Introduction

This series of mods aims to introduce historically inspired armors into the game. This one is dedicated to the Gothic style armor set.

Armors added by this mod are improved versions of the vanilla items, which serve as the base for crafting these modded armors. Gothic armor is a little lighter and more breathable than classic plate armor: you walk faster, your stats drain slower, while the defensive stats stay unchanged.

For each armor, you will need a specific schematic, that can be obtained only by deciphering the "Dusty Scroll" that is found throughout ruins, or sold by the Treasure Trader. Due to the rarity of these schematics, their price won’t exactly be a bargain.

Anyway, this is a major refactor of this line of mods — a simple content mod at heart. I’m aware that the recipes are VERY expensive and complicated to obtain, and that’s intentional — these armors represent very late-game technology. On the bright side, once crafted, it should stay with you pretty much forever.

NEW TO 2.0? MUST READ!
Forgotten Armory 2.0 migration — backup your saves first

The Forgotten Armory is undergoing a MAJOR refactor to the "REFORGED" versions one by one. Reforged armor packs rely on Forgotten Armory: Core and Attribute Rendering Library.

BE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR SAVES WHILE MIGRATING TO THE 2.0 ARMOR MODS. OLD ARMOR ITEMS ARE NOT DIRECTLY COMPATIBLE WITH THE REFORGED ITEM SYSTEM.

How to migrate

  1. Enter the game using the old mod and move your Gothic armor into your inventory.
  2. Quit the game and uninstall the old Forgotten Armory: Gothic version.
  3. Install Attribute Rendering Library 3.2.0, install Forgotten Armory: Core, then install Forgotten Armory: Gothic 2.0.
  4. Load the world and either:
    1. Acquire the replacement item through the Forgotten Armory command / Handbook workflow.
    2. Use /fac purge to replace supported legacy Forgotten Armory items with their new counterparts.

For the new crafting, deciphering and decoration systems, see Forgotten Armory: Core or the in-game Handbook / Guides.

Known Issues
  • Forgotten Armory repairs use the Reforged full-repair workflow rather than the vanilla partial-repair behavior. Repair cost is therefore concentrated into a full durability refill.

From the Memoirs of Grandmagister Cardinalis Thomas IX. The Pure
[Scene: The forge at evening. On the central stand is a German Gothic plate harness: sharp ridges, fan-shaped knees and articulated joints. Thomas circles it while Master Eldred watches his work in silence.]
Thomas
(whispering, mesmerized)
Master… this is something else entirely.
Master Eldred
(calmly)
You are looking at discipline given form. The Gothic Plate. Other armors scream strength; this one whispers inevitability.
Thomas
It almost looks… delicate.
Master Eldred
(with a murderous stare)
Delicate? A spider’s web looks delicate too, boy. It catches the fly just the same.
Thomas
(quickly)
I mean the gaps between the plates. It looks airy.
Master Eldred
(proudly)
Exactly. It breathes. The plates move with the knight. Every fan, ridge and curve serves movement and defense together. Balanced weight. Fluid motion. Protection without becoming an iron coffin.
Thomas
(approaching the sallet)
And the helmet, master… does it need to look quite so much like a snout?
[Eldred freezes. The forge becomes dangerously quiet.]
Master Eldred
(very calmly)
Like a snout?
Thomas
(carefully)
A little piggish. Almost as if it were searching for truffles.
Master Eldred
(exploding)
That “snout” is a fortress of angles! It exists to send sword points, arrows and lance tips sliding away instead of inviting them into a flat visor.
Thomas
(barely containing his laughter)
The nose of victory.
Master Eldred
(raising his hammer)
Exactly. Write that down. Breathe easy, keep moving, and let death slide past your snout.
Thomas
(looking back at the armor)
It is oddly beautiful. Like an armored flower.
Master Eldred
(quietly proud)
A deadly bloom. The enemy may admire it once.
[Distant war drums sound. The armor catches the forge light.]
