Essence Odyssey

Essence Odyssey -

English

Welcome to the world of Essence Odyssey!

This is a modpack built around technology, magic, and adventure. Explore six dimensions, unravel the six primary aspects, establish cross-mod production lines, and progress toward the endgame through rituals and automation. Embark on an odyssey across worlds, and seek the origin of the world.

Story

You are an ordinary person in the world of Minecraft. One day, the world begins to respond to you — amethyst shards start reacting to something. You don't know why. But you want to know why. You follow that response and keep walking.

You walk through six dimensions and gather six primary aspects. You find a meteorite. Hidden inside it is a record that belongs to no civilization you know of. You decipher it, and learn to write the world with aspects.

Later you begin turning aspects into other forms, mass-producing them, and combining primary aspects into secondary ones — step by step closing in on the question you could not answer at first: why is the world responding to you?

Your journey has no guidance. Only a note, and a path you walked for yourself.

Core Gameplay

1. Six dimensions, six primary aspects

Overworld = Water ｜ Nether = Fire ｜ Twilight Forest = Earth ｜ The Aether = Air ｜ The End = Chaos ｜ Eternal Starlight = Order

Each dimension has its own way of obtaining aspects. Interact with a dimension using amethyst shards to obtain the matching aspect crystals.

2. Aspect forms run through the entire progression

From solid crystals to liquid fluids, and on to gaseous quintessence — with Nature's Aura tokens, Ars Nouveau essences, and Neo Vitae inscription tools appearing in between. Each form has its own way of being obtained and its own uses, opening up layer by layer rather than all at once.

3. Secondary aspect crafting

15 combinations, multiple production routes — you can choose a different production method depending on your tech line (not yet complete).

4. AE2

AE2 is part of the progression from early on, rather than something unlocked later.

5. Three threads, interwoven

Technology, magic, and adventure run in parallel and interweave, rather than standing apart.

Development Status

This modpack is in early development. Progress currently stands at Chapter 2; the main questline and the endgame are not finished yet. You may run into placeholder content — or the occasional "Intentional Game Design".

If you run into problems while playing, feedback is very welcome.

Because of the author's current development and localization constraints, during development this pack ships complete Chinese content and only basic English content (introduced in version 0.2.2). English translation and localization will be filled in gradually once the main content and systems are largely complete.

Inspiration

Parts of Essence Odyssey's worldbuilding, magical systems, and gameplay design were inspired by my appreciation and study of Thaumcraft, Botania, and Astral Sorcery. This modpack is not intended to recreate the content of those mods; instead, it is an attempt to combine technology, magic, adventure, and a world shaped by six primary aspects in its own way.

Special thanks to the developers and communities of Thaumcraft, Botania, and Astral Sorcery for their lasting contributions to Minecraft's modding ecosystem and for creating such imaginative magical experiences.

Botania and Astral Sorcery will be added to Essence Odyssey one after the other, once each has a stable 1.21.1 release.

Textures & materials

Some item textures are used or adapted from other mods. Sincere thanks to their authors:

Botania by Vazkii —— rune textures (some renamed and adapted).

Mekanism, Neo Vitae, Hostile Neural Networks, Applied Energistics 2, Modular Machinery —— a few item and block textures are adapted from these mods.

Astral Sorcery related assets are development-time placeholders, to be replaced once its 1.21.1 release is available.

Non-CurseForge mods

This modpack uses the following non-CurseForge mods. Special thanks to the original authors:

Aether's Delight by zjjohn121110 —— Modrinth Project Page

Chinese localization

Part of this pack's Chinese localization is based on and adapted from All the Mods 10 汉化补丁 —— 绿油油版 by 星野夢華 (Hoshino Yumeka) (GitHub), whose translation content also includes contributions from the CFPA community (Minecraft-Mod-Language-Package). Those translation files are provided under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Thanks to the author and to all contributors for bringing such quality localization to the Chinese Minecraft modding community.

Also

This credits list is compiled from the author's own records and may still be incomplete. If you are the author of an asset, translation or piece of code used in this pack and are not listed above — or if you would prefer a different treatment of your work — please reach out through the project page, and I will add the credit or adjust / remove it accordingly. Thanks also to everyone who contributes to the Minecraft modding and localization community.
