Quick answer

Which OptiFine for NeoForge release should I use?

Updated 1 year ago
Latest stable file OptiFine for NeoForge
Game version 1.21.1
Loader NeoForge 21.1.170

OptiFine for NeoForge is a complete pack release for 1.21.1 with NeoForge 21.1.170. Install it as its own launcher instance. If the creator publishes a separate server file, make sure it names this exact pack release. For this loader, use Java 21. 54 mods in this pack file.

Pack setup

How should I set up OptiFine for NeoForge for players and a server?

Use OptiFine for NeoForge as the pack version. Install the pack as its own launcher instance. The creator’s listing does not name a separate server file, so check the release notes before setting up a dedicated server. Do not upload the ordinary client folder blindly.

Client instance Install OptiFine for NeoForge
Dedicated server setup Match OptiFine for NeoForge
Pack loader NeoForge 21.1.170
Java version Java 21

A pack is a matched client and server setup, not one mod with an install-side label. Keep its release, loader, manifest and overrides together.

Referenced mods 54
Client only 0
Server only 0
Not labelled 54

These numbers come from the pack file you chose. “Not labelled” means we don’t know which side it belongs on—not that it is safe everywhere. The file count is not a RAM estimate.

What are the server requirements for OptiFine for NeoForge?

OptiFine for NeoForge. Change the pack release and its contents or setup may change too.

54 mods in this pack file

The selected pack release is OptiFine for NeoForge. That file is for Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge 21.1.170. This NeoForge setup needs Java 21. It contains 54 mod projects. The creator’s listing does not name a separate server file. Check their notes before using one, and do not upload an ordinary client folder or rebuild the pack mod by mod. A file count cannot tell us the right RAM, CPU or storage; size the server for the players and world you actually run.

#UpdateSinytraConnector

Sinytra Connector is the only mod holding this modpack back. It has been stuck on 1.21.1 for over a year now, and it doesn't seem like it's coming back. If anyone can port it, PLEASE do. I had high hopes for this modpack, and I can't do anything until Sinytra Connector updates.

Version info

Example version: 19.4+2.1a

  • The first set of numbers (19.4) are for the Minecraft version 1.19.4
  • The 4th number (2) is the major version of OptiFine for NeoForge
  • The 5th number (1) is the minor version of OptiFine for NeoForge
  • The letter (a) is the release channel of the pack
Major version info: The latest major version (and the one I recommend playing on) is v3.
Minor version info: Minor versions only update when a mod is updated or a bug has been fixed, so just play on the latest minor version for your Minecraft version.
    Release channel info:
  • A: Stands for Alpha, which is the most unstable channel. It will most likely have bugs or major missing features.
  • B: Stands for Beta, which is a testing channel. It may have bugs or minor missing features.
  • No letter: Stable. This is the channel that I recommend playing on, as it has been tested and has all of the features.

The only time you should use Alpha or Beta builds is when you need to play on that version, and even then, please report any and all bugs you find.
