About this project
What does BetterBiomes add?
BetterBiomes
Orbis gets wilder. BetterBiomes adds a bunch of new subbiomes, 14 new cave types and a handful of landscape features to every zone of Hytale, from quiet flower meadows in the Emerald Wilds to a burning desert, a glacier mountain range and floating islands above the Devastated Lands.
Everything is built from vanilla blocks and plants, so the new areas blend into the world you already know.
This Mod adds no new mechanics nor does it add new items or blocks.
Features
Surface biomes
Zone 1 – Emerald Wilds
- Dead Forest: grey, leafless beech and ash trees on dry ground.
- Dried Plains: parched grassland dotted with dead trees and stumps.
- Redwood Forest: towering redwoods, normally only found in Zone 3, now in the green lands.
- Jungle: a dense Zone 1 jungle with banyan trees, tree ferns and bamboo.
- Savanna: golden grass and scattered dry trees, alive where the Dried Plains are dead.
- Meadow: wide open flower fields with almost no trees.
- Flower Patch: small bursts of flowers in the plains.
Zone 2 – Howling Sands
- Burning Desert: ash sand, glowing cracks, lava lakes and charred trees.
- Flat Mountains: huge table mountains with a snowy cap rising out of the desert.
- Oasis: a small palm-lined pond in the middle of open desert.
- Badlands: red sand, colourful clay bands and rock arches.
Zone 3 – Whisperfrost Frontiers
- Pine Fields: open snowy plains with loose groups of firs.
- Frosty Mountains: glacier peaks of snow and ice, with yeti camps and glacier weather.
- Hot Springs: thawed pools of warm water in the snow fields.
- Giants' Graveyard: a sunken valley full of giant skeletons, bones, ice pillars and soul lights.
- Frost Swamp: a frozen swamp with dead and snow-covered firs.
Zone 4 – Devastated Lands
- Radioactive Shroom Fields: giant mushrooms, glowing fungi and poison pools.
- Glowing Shimmer: a crystal forest with giant crystals, geodes and floating shards.
- Unholy Forest: a blood-red ghost forest with bone piles and red glowing mushrooms.
- Burning Plains: a landscape that is on fire right now, not just burnt out.
- Gravitation Skylands: floating islands with grass, volcanic spires, crystals and small streams.
- Volcano: a single cone with a crater rim and a lava lake at the top.
Oceans
- Abyssal Ocean: the deepest trenches, with glowing deep-sea plants, crystals and vents.
- Sunken Ruins: ruin fields on the sandy sea floor.
- Deepwater Hot Springs: basalt hills with vent craters and bubbling seagrass.
Caves
| Zone | Cave types |
|---|---|
| Emerald Wilds | Overgrown Cave (grass, ferns, glowing mushrooms, vines) · Rich Cave (ore patches in floor and ceiling) · Spiked Cave (a vertical shaft into a dripstone hall) · Sinkholes · Mountain Grottos |
| Howling Sands | Marble Caves · Scarab Caves (a nest of brood chambers and tunnels) |
| Whisperfrost Frontiers | Frostglass Caves · Meltwater Caves (half flooded) · Crevasses · Bone Crypt below the Giants' Graveyard · Mountain Grottos |
| Devastated Lands | Magma Cave (a real lava lake underground) · Ash Pits |
| Oceans | Underwater Sea Caves opening in the sea floor |
Landscape features
- Waterfalls: small and large waterfalls pouring off cliff edges.
- Overhangs: rock ledges jutting out of cliffs and mountains.
- Ancient Bones: rare fossil sites scattered through the Whisperfrost Frontiers.
- Small structures: four per zone, such as wayside shrines, hunting stands, caravan rests, ice altars and burnt outposts.
Finding the new biomes
Every biome can be found with the vanilla locate command:
/locate biome BetterBiomes_Forest_Dead --tp
UtilityBiome also adds a few exploring commands, for example /ub where (which biome am I in?) and /ub cave <name> (teleport to the nearest cave of a type). See the UtilityBiome page for the full list.
Compatibility
- Hytale server 0.6.x (tested with 0.6.8).
- BetterBiomes only adds files and never replaces vanilla worldgen files, so it should get along with other mods that do the same. Mods that replace the vanilla zone files may conflict.
- Works on servers and in singleplayer.
Status
BetterBiomes is in alpha. Biome sizes and how often they appear may still change between versions. Found a bug or a biome that looks off? Let us know in the comments or on the issue tracker, ideally with the output of /ub where and a screenshot.
