About this project
What does Morph Rings [HyBaubles] add?
Become something else for a while. Wear a morph ring in your offhand and you take that creature's shape - model, animations, the lot - until you take the ring off. Sixty durability, one point every five seconds, so a ring is five minutes of being a wolf.
No brewing, no drinking, no timer to watch. Put it on, be a bear, take it off.
The rings
| Ring | Requires Mod |
|---|---|
| Dog | - |
| Frog | - |
| Mouse | - |
| Pigeon | - |
| Bear | Not Enough Potions |
| Wolf | Not Enough Potions |
| Goblin | Not Enough Potions |
| Skeleton | Not Enough Potions |
| Zombie | Not Enough Potions |
| Trork | Not Enough Potions |
| Fire Dragon | Not Enough Potions |
| Frost Dragon | Not Enough Potions |
| Void Dragon | Not Enough Potions |
Wearing one
A ring works in your offhand, or in one of HyBaubles' two ring slots. Wear two and the offhand one wins.
The wear
60 durability, each durability lasts 5 seconds - about five minutes per ring. When it runs out the ring is destroyed and you change back. Rings lose durability only while worn.
Crafting
2 of the matching morph potion + 8 iron bars, at the Workbench.
The four base rings use the game's own morph potions. The other nine need Not Enough Potions installed, and the mod handles both cases cleanly: without it, those rings' recipes are removed at startup rather than sitting in your bench forever greyed out.
Real morphing, not a costume
Hytale has no morph system of its own, and this mod does not fake one. A morph is an entity effect that swaps your model, which is exactly how the game's own morph potions work - so a ring applies the same effect the potion applies. The creature, its animations, its particles and its sound are identical to drinking the potion. Nothing is reimplemented.
What the mod does add is the parts that are easy to get wrong:
- You always change back. Morph state does not survive a relog, so a ring also rebuilds your own model when the morph ends - otherwise logging out while morphed could leave you stuck as a creature permanently.
- Switching rings works. The engine refuses to apply a second morph while one is active, so changing rings clears the old one first.
- A potion still beats a ring. Drink a morph potion while wearing a ring and the potion wins until it expires, then the ring takes over again.
In the creative menu
The rings have their own creative section, MorphRings -> Rings, and also appear under HyBaubles -> Rings -> Morph Rings when that mod is installed.
Works with HyBaubles
Every ring is also a HyBaubles Ring bauble, so it fits HyBaubles' two ring slots and keeps morphing there. Neither mod requires the other - the rings work on their own, and HyBaubles works fine without them.
Requires HyBaubles 1.2.0 or later. Earlier versions stored equipped baubles as item ids only, which stripped a ring's durability the moment you slotted it. 1.2.0 stores the whole item, so durability and enchantments survive being worn. Existing worlds upgrade automatically.
Enchant it
The rings are enchantable with Simple Enchantments (optional):
- Durability - up to level 3. A chance at each tick to lose nothing, so a ring lasts roughly 6.7, 10 or 20 minutes instead of 5.
- Sturdy - keeps its normal meaning: no repair penalty at the bench.
No config editing, no restart. Without Simple Enchantments the rings are simply not enchantable and nothing else changes.
Requirements
| Hytale server | 0.6.8 or later |
| HyBaubles | Optional - ring slots. 1.2.0+ for durability to survive there |
| Simple Enchantments | Optional - makes the rings enchantable |
| Not Enough Potions | Optional - supplies nine of the thirteen morphs |
Installation
- Drop
MorphRings-1.0.0.jarinto your server'smods/folder. - Optionally add
HyBaubles-1.2.0.jarfor the ring slots. - Restart.
Safe to add or remove at any time. Removing it leaves any rings already in the world as unknown items.
