About this project
What does Masterwork: Forge Souls add?
Forge Souls - A Masterwork addon
Every forged piece has a soul. Offer it up, or spend it to bring worn gear back
Requires Masterwork 1.3.0 or newer. Forge Souls is an addon: it does nothing on its own, and it must never be installed without Masterwork.
✨ Main Features
- Offer graded gear at the Soul Anvil for its soul
- Merge a hundred essences into one soul
- Restore worn gear to full durability
- Fully configurable from Masterwork's own page
- Public API
For more technical language, see our documentation, there you'll find every setting, its default, and the Public API for modders who want to create any integration.
⚒️ The Soul Anvil
An altar to the Forge Gods. Through it you can reach the spiritual realm, where the souls of forged items live.

You craft it at a tier 3 Workbench from 32 Adamantite Bars, 8 Tree Sap, 100 Fire Essence and 1 Voidheart. To use it, hold the piece you want to work on and interact with the anvil. It opens on whatever that piece allows. Hold something it can't take and you get a short tutorial instead.
It also needs room. Nothing can be built in a 4 by 3 area around it, up to 3 blocks high.
🕯️ Offering
Offer the anvil a graded piece and you kneel while the rite runs. The piece is gone, and what's left is its soul, as Forge Essence or a whole Forge Soul. Better gear gives more:
| Grade | Offering gives |
|---|---|
| Masterwork | 1 Forge Soul |
| Exquisite | 10 Forge Essence |
| Superior | 1 Forge Essence |
| Lower grades | refused |
Default values. Every grade is configurable.
🔥 Merging
An essence is only a fragment of a soul. A hundred of them, all of the same level, merge back into one Forge Soul.

That level is the item level of the piece the essence came from, and it's written in the name. Essences of different levels don't stack.
🔨 Restoring
Every repair kit takes a bit of a piece's maximum durability, and it never comes back. The anvil gets it back. Spend a Forge Soul and the piece returns to its full original durability, the way it left the bench.

The soul has to be at least the piece's level. A level 40 sword won't take a level 20 soul.
By default a restore costs one Forge Soul, whatever the grade. Every grade is configurable, and can be paid in Forge Essence instead.
📈 Crafting XP
Offering, merging and restoring all pay crafting XP, on whichever progression system your server uses through Masterwork: its own, or MMO Skill Tree. By default a job pays a tenth of what crafting the same piece would.
⚙️ For server operators
Everything lives in the Settings tab of /masterwork, under Addons, and is saved to mods/ForgeSouls/forgesouls-config.json:
- What each grade gives, in Forge Souls or Forge Essence, from 0 to 100. Set it to 0 and the anvil refuses that grade.
- What a restore costs for each grade, plus one row for gear with no grade.
- A blacklist, to keep any item away from offering, restoring or both.
- How much XP each job pays.
Players can turn off the tutorial, and the third person camera during an offering, from the Preferences tab.
There are no commands and no permissions of its own. Whoever can change Masterwork's settings can change these too.
