About this project
What does Umbral Tether add?
Umbral Tether
A Void-bound charm that pulls you back from death at a price.
Umbral Tether is a single-use charm that cheats death for you. Hold it in your hand, and when a hit would kill you, the Tether shatters and pulls you back to the living instead. If you know the Totem of Undying from Minecraft, this works the same way, with a dark Hytale twist.
How it works
- Keep an Umbral Tether in your hand.
- When a hit would kill you, it cancels the death, shatters and revives you with 50% health.
- Each Tether is used up in one save and doesn't stack.
- There's a 10-second cooldown between saves.
The price of a second chance
Coming back from the Void changes you:
- Invulnerability (10 seconds): you can't be hurt while you recover.
- Swiftness (20 seconds): you get +50% movement speed to get away.
- Void Sickness (1 minute): you take 20% more damage, and a slight purple tint falls over your vision until it wears off.
- Energy fog: a swirling purple mist surrounds your character while the effects last.
Visuals and sound
- The ring glows and pulses, with light travelling from the ring into the crystal.
- A low hum plays while you hold the Tether, and an ominous heartbeat plays every time you equip it.
- The death save has its own sequence: the crystal absorbs energy, cracks, and bursts.
- Press R to inspect it.
How to get one
Crafting: at a Tier 2 Workbench, in the Tools tab:
- 3x Purple Crystal Shards
- 1x Essence of the Void
- 1x Essence of Life
Drops:
- Hostile mobs have a 5–10% chance to drop 1–2 Tethers.
- Void creatures have a 10–30% chance.
