About this project

What does ChatGuard add?

Stops chat spam on your Hytale server: a cooldown between messages, a limit on repeated messages, a caps filter and optional link blocking. Server-side only; players need nothing installed.

Features

  • Cooldown: minimum time between a player's messages (default 1.5 s), with a polite "slow down" notice.
  • Repeat filter: blocks the same message sent again and again (default: 2 in a row).
  • Caps filter: messages that are mostly capitals are lowercased (or blocked, your choice).
  • Link blocking: URLs and bare domains are removed from chat (default on).
  • Length cap: messages are trimmed to 256 characters.
  • Bypass: anyone with the chatguard.bypass permission is never filtered.

Settings

chatguard.properties in the mod's data directory (created on first start): cooldownMillis (1500), maxRepeats (2), capsMinLength (12), capsMaxRatio (0.7), capsAction (lowercase or block), blockLinks (true), maxLength (256), bypassPermission, warnColor.

Install

Drop the jar into the server's mods/ folder and restart.

Built for Hytale 0.7.x; also compiles against the 0.8 pre-release. Licence: MIT.
