It can shoot flares in various colors and with various effects.
Flares
These are the simple colored flares.

Special Flares
A few flares have special abilities, for example the Glowstone Flare has the ability to give night vision.

Range Finder
It gets the distance between the player and the block pointed at, has a limit of 250 blocks.

May cause slight lag at large distances.
Light Sticks
Throwable items which light up areas.

Can be used in caves for lighting up large areas quickly.

Comes in multiple colors a swell.
Sticky Light Sticks
Instead of bouncing around like normal Light Sticks, they stick to surfaces instead.

Echo Light Sticks
When thrown, they will attract mobs in a small radius.
