About this project

What does The great expansion add?

A world and progression mod for explorers and builders

"The world grows"

The Great Expansion is a feature-packed Minecraft NeoForge 1.21.1 mod that turns your world into a much bigger adventure—blending industrial progression, rare materials, custom machines, magic, exploration, powerful gear, and a huge collection of building options.

Start small by mining new ores, then grow into a full production empire. Build machines, refine crude oil into useful fuels, generate Forge Energy, create advanced materials, unlock magical tomes, and eventually open the way to the mysterious Skylands.

Build your industry

Mine a wide range of new resources, including:

  • Bauxite → Aluminum

  • Cassiterite → Tin

  • Galena → Lead

  • Cinnabar → Mercury

  • Ilmenite → Titanium

  • Aqualith, a rare and powerful desert gem

  • Cryonite and Permafrost Iron in frozen regions

Turn raw resources into useful materials through a detailed progression system. Crush iron and charcoal into steel powder, smelt it into steel, craft beams and faceplates, then assemble steel frames and machine frames—the foundation of your industrial age.

Machines, fuel, and power

The Great Expansion adds machines that give your survival world a more hands-on technological progression:

  • Crusher — process materials such as steel powder and silicon dust

  • Refinery — convert crude oil and coal into propane, gasoline, diesel, and asphalt

  • Propane Generator — generate Forge Energy from refined propane

  • Induction Furnace — advanced powered smelting with a large energy capacity

  • Pressure Cooker — powered advanced cooking

  • Filler — utility machine for placing and filling blocks

  • Germination Tank — help plants grow and develop

  • Water Tank — store water for your machinery

  • Reinforced Chest — durable storage for valuable supplies

  • Jewelry Workbench and Ice Cutter — specialized crafting and processing stations

Build your own fuel chain: find crude oil, refine it, store propane, produce energy, and power your expanding base.

Rare gear and mining upgrades

Discover powerful equipment for every stage of your adventure.

The legendary Aqualith set can be found by exploring desert regions and mining rare Aqualith ore. It offers a full tool and armor set with exceptional mining speed, high enchantability, and serious combat power.

For industrial survival, forge Titanium tools and armor from deep underground Ilmenite ore. Titanium gear requires both Titanium and Steel, making it a true late-game reward.

Need to clear out an entire mining tunnel? Craft the mod’s unique 3×3 Hammers:

  • Iron Hammer

  • Steel Hammer

  • Diamond Hammer

These heavy-duty tools make large-scale mining much faster and more satisfying.

Magic and the Skylands

Technology is only one side of The Great Expansion.

Create elemental tomes—such as Flight, Earth, Lightning, Nature, and Sky Tomes—then use Tome Emitters and the Activator Bench to unlock powerful magical progression.

Your magical journey leads to the Skylands, a new realm filled with custom terrain, Skywood, Sky Berries, sky shrines, hidden caches, and rare treasures. Craft a Skylands Igniter, activate the portal, search for Skylands structures, and uncover the elusive Skylariam Gem.

You can also use magical progression to unlock special weapon infusions such as Stormstrike.

Explore a richer world

The world is filled with new generation features, including:

  • Custom ores at different depths and in specific biomes

  • Oil nodes and natural crude-oil sources

  • Frozen Permafrost landscapes

  • Winter plants such as Snowdrops, Snow Lilies, Hellebore, and Winterberries

  • Palo trees and Skywood trees

  • Sky shrines in multiple conditions

  • Desert-exclusive Aqualith deposits

  • Sand Crabs and winter-themed creatures

Build anything

The Great Expansion includes a large set of blocks for builders and base designers:

  • Asphalt blocks, slabs, and stairs for roads and industrial builds

  • Packed Sand and packed-sand brick sets

  • Extensive Ice Block and Ice Brick building families

  • Complete Palo Wood and Skywood building sets

  • Cobblestone pillars, bases, toppers, side pillars, and junction pieces

  • Steel frames, industrial blocks, decorative statues, and more

Whether you are building a frozen fortress, a desert outpost, a factory complex, a road network, or a castle supported by detailed pillars, there are plenty of new pieces to work with.

Two ways to progress

The mod includes dedicated advancement paths to guide your adventure:

  • Technology path: mine new ores, craft your first Crusher, produce steel, build machine frames, refine oil, and power your industrial network.

  • Magic path: craft tomes, build an Activator Bench, unlock the Skylands, discover hidden caches, and wield elemental power.

The Great Expansion is made for players who want more reasons to explore, mine, build, automate, and experiment. Whether you love tech mods, magic mods, decorative building, or simply discovering new things in survival, there is always another step forward.
