About this project
What does Fabulocks! add?
Fabulocks!
Fabulocks! is a mod that adds a full lock and lockpicking system to Minecraft, complete with keys, lockpicks, a Skyrim-style lockpicking minigame, and locks that spawn naturally in generated structures.
⚠️ Previously Lock'n'Pick — This mod was renamed to Fabulocks!. Updating from the old version is safe for your world: locks already placed in the world are preserved and keep working. However, item IDs changed with the rename, so any locks, keys, keychains or lockpicks stored in inventories and containers will disappear.

Features
🔒 Locks and Tiers
- Craftable locks and lockpicks in 4 tiers: Copper, Iron, Diamond and Netherite. Higher-tier locks are harder to pick, higher-tier lockpicks last longer.
- Sneak + right-click a block with a lock to secure it: you'll receive the original key. Once locked, a block can be opened only with its key and broken only by the lock owner (or admins).
- Multi-part blocks are covered: locking a door, a double door, a double chest or a bed protects all of its parts.
- Every block can be protected. Default settings include the main interactable vanilla blocks (chests, barrels, shulker boxes, doors, trapdoors, fence gates, ender chest) but you can add whatever block you want through IDs or Tags (levers, buttons, modded machines and so on).
- Looking at a locked block shows a small padlock indicator colored by lock tier, so you always know what is protected and how hard it would be to crack.
🗝️ Keys
- Keys: each lock has a specific original key. Sneak + right-click with it to remove the lock and get the lock item back — it keeps its pairing, so you can re-apply it elsewhere with the same key.
- Key Blanks: craft a blank next to an original key to create a duplicate. Duplicates open the lock but only the original can remove it.
- Keychain: a dyeable, bundle-like item to group all your keys in one place — right-click keys in your inventory to merge or unmerge them.
- Master Key: creative-only, opens every lock.
- You can't accidentally lock yourself out: the mod prevents storing a key inside the very container it opens.
🎮 Lockpicking Minigame
Right-clicking a locked block with a lockpick brings up a Skyrim-inspired minigame:
- Move the pick around the lock to find the sweet spot
- Once the pick is in place, rotate the cylinder — if you force it in the wrong spot, the lockpick takes damage and might break
- If you succeed, the lock is destroyed and the block is left unprotected
- The lock's tier decides how narrow the sweet spot is; an optional visual hint helps you find it
- Everything is validated server-side: the sweet spot lives on the server and attempts are rate-limited, so clients can't cheat

🗺️ Locked Loot in Structures
Chests, barrels and beds in generated structures — shipwrecks, strongholds, desert pyramids, fortresses, ruined portals, pillager outposts, villages, bastions, ancient cities and more — can spawn already locked with a random tier. The only ways in are lockpicks or explosive methods of negotiation… and locked containers can even hide bonus loot scaled to the tier of the lock protecting them.
⚙️ Fully Configurable
The mod comes with a flexible config system (fabulocks.json) that lets you tweak:
- Which blocks can be locked (both using block IDs or tags)
- Lock difficulty and lockpick durability per tier
- Which blocks and structures can generate pre-locked, and the spawn chance per lock tier
- How many keys a keychain can hold, whether owners need their key, whether locks drop when broken
- And much more — and on a dedicated server, the server config is synced to every connected client
