Welcome to Coal Enhancements!

Coal Enhancements adds an entire set of Coal tools and armour centered around heat, fire, and automatic smelting.

Smelt block drops instantly, cook certain crops, ignite enemies, and protect yourself from an unexpected fall into lava!

Coal Armour

Every piece of Coal Armour has 400 durability.

Coal Armour is similar to Iron Armour, although its Chestplate and Leggings each provide one fewer armour point.

Armour Piece Durability Armour Points Iron Armour Points
Coal Helmet 400 2 2
Coal Chestplate 400 5 6
Coal Leggings 400 4 5
Coal Boots 400 2 2

Fire and Lava Protection

Wearing the complete four-piece Coal Armour set protects you from fire and lava damage.

This protection is designed as an emergency safeguard rather than permanent lava equipment. While you are burning or standing in lava, durability drains extremely quickly from every equipped Coal Armour piece.

Move quickly—the protection only continues while the complete set remains intact!

Coal Tools

Coal tools have the same durability, mining speed, attack damage, and attack speed as their Stone equivalents.

Tool Durability Attack Damage Attack Speed
Coal Sword 131 5 1.6
Coal Axe 131 9 0.8
Coal Pickaxe 131 3 1.2
Coal Shovel 131 3.5 1.0
Coal Hoe 131 1 2.0

Burning Attacks

Every Coal tool ignites enemies when used as a weapon:

  • The Coal Sword burns its target for four seconds.
  • The Axe, Pickaxe, Shovel, and Hoe burn their targets for two seconds.
  • Raw food dropped by a mob that dies while burning is cooked normally.
  • Activating the burn effect consumes one additional durability point per hit.

Burning attacks work independently of Auto-Smelt mode.

Auto-Smelt Mode

The Coal Axe, Pickaxe, Shovel, and Hoe each have a persistent Auto-Smelt toggle.

While holding one of these tools, press Crouch to switch its ability on or off. A message will appear above the hotbar confirming the current mode.

The setting is saved separately on each individual tool.

Axe, Pickaxe, and Shovel

When Auto-Smelt is enabled, newly created block drops with a valid furnace recipe are immediately converted into their smelted result.

Examples include:

  • Logs becoming Charcoal
  • Raw Ores becoming Ingots
  • Sand and Red Sand becoming Glass
  • Other furnace-smeltable block drops producing their normal smelted result

The transformed stack keeps the quantity that originally dropped, including additional items obtained through effects such as Fortune.

Only drops created by the current block break are affected. Items already lying nearby are never smelted retroactively.

Auto-Smelt consumes one additional durability point whenever at least one dropped item is successfully transformed.

Coal Hoe Cooking

With Auto-Smelt enabled, the Coal Hoe can instantly cook:

  • Mature Potatoes into Baked Potatoes
  • Kelp into Dried Kelp

Using this ability consumes one additional durability point.

Anvil Restrictions

To balance their special abilities, Coal tools and armour:

  • Cannot be repaired in an Anvil
  • Cannot receive Mending through an Anvil

Other valid enchantments and Anvil operations remain available when they do not repair the item or add Mending.

Crafting Recipes

Coal equipment is crafted using Coal, Charcoal, and Sticks.
