About this project

What does Customizable Brightness - Fullbright & Gamma Control add?

Customizable Brightness – Fullbright & Gamma Control

Press B in game to change brightness. Each press steps to the next level (0% → 100% → 200% → 500% → 1000% by default), and the current level shows above your hotbar. Change the key under Options → Controls → Key Binds → Customizable Brightness.

Tired of fullbright mods that are only "on" or "off"? Customizable Brightness lets you cycle through as many brightness levels as you want with a single key, from pitch black (0%) to ultra-bright cave vision (1000%+).

✨ Features

  • One key, many levels: press B to step through your brightness stops
  • Your own stops: defaults are 0%, 100%, 200%, 500% and 1000%, fully customizable
  • Remembered between sessions: the game reopens at the level you left it on
  • Instant feedback: the current percentage appears above your hotbar on every press
  • Easy to discover: a small hint in the corner shows your key until you first press it
  • Beyond vanilla limits: goes far past Minecraft's 100% brightness cap
  • Complete darkness mode: 0% for atmospheric or horror gameplay
  • In-game config: via Mod Menu + Cloth Config (1.16.5 and newer)
  • Client-side only: nothing to install on servers
  • Huge version support: 44 Minecraft versions, from 1.14.4 to 26.3

🎮 Perfect For

  • Cave exploration without placing torches
  • Mining in deep dark areas with full visibility
  • Ancient city exploration
  • Night building and mining without potions
  • Horror maps and atmospheric playthroughs at 0%

📦 Installation

  1. Install Fabric Loader and Fabric API
  2. Download the file for your Minecraft version and put it in your mods folder
  3. Launch the game and press B

Optional (in-game config, 1.16.5+): Mod Menu and Cloth Config

🎯 Supported Versions

Minecraft Java
1.14.4 – 1.16.5 8
1.17 – 1.17.1 16
1.18 – 1.20.4 17
1.20.5 – 1.21.11 21
26.1 – 26.3 25

⚙️ Configuration

  • In game: Mods → Customizable Brightness → config button (needs Mod Menu + Cloth Config)
  • File: config/customizable_brightness.properties, for example brightness_stops=0.0,1.0,2.0,5.0,10.0 (1.0 = 100%)
  • Keybind: Options → Controls → Key Binds

⚠️ Known Limitations

  • Shader packs (Iris / OptiFine shaders): most shader packs do their own lighting and ignore brightness above 100%. With shaders on, 0% to 100% works, but higher levels look the same as 100%. Without shaders, every level works, including with Sodium.
  • The B key and the vanilla Brightness slider share one level. Moving the slider sets brightness (0–100%) and is remembered; pressing B afterwards steps to the next level above it.

❓ FAQ

Why not just use another fullbright mod? Most are simple on/off toggles. This gives you as many levels as you want, remembered between sessions.

Is this allowed on servers? It's client-side only, but extreme brightness can be an advantage, so check your server's rules.

Can I set custom levels? Yes, any value from 0% to 10000%, in the config file or the in-game config.
