About this project

What does Croptopia Grass Seeds add?

Croptopia Grass Seeds

A Croptopia addon for Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge) that restores seed drops from grass — a feature removed from Croptopia.

Breaking tall grass, short grass, ferns or large ferns now has a chance to drop Croptopia seeds, with each seed only appearing in its natural biome climate.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.20.1
  • Forge 47.x
  • Croptopia 3.0.0+

How it works

Every grass or fern block broken can drop a seed. Each of the 58 Croptopia crops has a default climate zone:

Zone Biomes Seeds
Tropical Jungle, Mangrove Swamp Coffee, Ginger, Pepper, Pineapple, Rice, Tea, Turmeric, Vanilla, Yam
Warm Savanna, Desert, Badlands, Cherry Grove Bell Pepper, Cantaloupe, Chile Pepper, Eggplant, Grape, Honeydew, Kiwi, Olive, Peanut, Saguaro, Sweet Potato, Tomatillo, Tomato
Temperate Forest, Plains, Swamp, Hills Artichoke, Asparagus, Basil, Black Bean, Blackberry, Celery, Corn, Cucumber, Elderberry, Garlic, Green Bean, Green Onion, Hops, Leek, Lettuce, Mustard, Onion, Raspberry, Soybean, Spinach, Squash, Strawberry, Zucchini
Cold Taiga, Mountains, Snow Barley, Blueberry, Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Cranberry, Currant, Kale, Oat, Radish, Rhubarb, Rutabaga, Turnip

Default drop chance: 0.5% per seed per grass broken.

Biome mods (Terralith, BYG, Oh The Biomes You'll Go…) are automatically compatible — they inherit vanilla biome tags.

Configuration

On first launch, config/croptopiagrass/seeds.json is generated with defaults:

{
  "enabled": true,
  "default_drop_chance": 0.005,
  "default_biome_tag": "minecraft:is_overworld",
  "seed_overrides": {}
}
Field Description
enabled Enable or disable the mod entirely
default_drop_chance Drop probability from 0.0 to 1.0 (0.005 = 0.5%)
default_biome_tag Fallback biome tag for seeds with no zone assigned
seed_overrides Per-seed overrides (optional)

Per-seed override example

{
  "seed_overrides": {
    "croptopia:rice_seed": {
      "drop_chance": 0.03,
      "biome_tag": "minecraft:is_wet"
    }
  }
}

Only include the fields you want to override — omitted fields fall back to defaults.
