What does Aroma Affect add?

A Minecraft mod that brings the sense of smell to your gameplay

Welcome to Aroma Affect, a mod that introduces upgradable noses that let you experience Minecraft through a variety of scents, offering a range of ways to interact with your world in unimaginable ways.

This mod offers two ways to explore: our passive mode or one with real-world scent hardware from OVR Technology. The experience and mechanics are the same, but scent enhances the adventure; it doesn't gate it.

  • Discovery Mode: The environment around you emits scents automatically based on biomes, blocks, and hazards. Walk near lava, enter a flower forest, or approach a nether fortress, the world reacts. No items or setup required.
  • Focus Mode: Equip a Scent Mask (the Nose) to filter, focus, and actively track specific targets like ores, biomes, and structures. Higher tiers unlock more precise tracking and new target types, with visual guidance to navigate toward them. Features Ambient World Scenting Biome transitions, environmental hazards, and nearby resources all trigger scent events passively.
  • The Nose System: Craft and upgrade Scent Masks through a tiered progression system. Each tier unlocks new tracking abilities, detect ores, locate biomes, find structures.
  • Sniffer Integration: Endgame companion system that builds on Minecraft's Sniffer mob, unlocking new gameplay possibilities.
  • Radial Menu: Access all scent abilities through a radial menu for quick selection of tracking targets, scent modes, and mask configuration.
  • OVR Hardware: To experience real-world scents, you need an OVR scent device, available for pre-order at ovrtechnology.com. Without the hardware, the mod functions as a standalone gameplay mod with full visual and mechanical features.
