SIDENOTE:

Hunger drain bug has been fixed

to bind a spell to a spellbook, you have to hold the spellbook in your offhand and right click with the spell in your mainhand. the spellbook and spell must both be able to be used by the players class. SHIFT+RIGHT CLICK to change the equipped spell in the spellbook.
