The Taber is a sarcastic, unpredictable entity that follows you around, comments on your actions, and occasionally interferes with your survival. He’s not hostile by default — but he’s not exactly friendly either.

How to find The Taber
The Taber does not spawn naturally. To meet him, you must complete a small quest:

• Survive your first night
• Wake up the next morning
• Follow the strange clues and notes you’ll find
• Collect the required items
• Craft the Summoning Egg
• Spawn your new… neighbor

You won’t meet him automatically — you summon him yourself.

Note: The mod contains occasional night scares (creepy sounds + a brief darkness effect). They are not loud or extreme, but they may surprise you.

This mod has two versions: EN and RU. Check the Files tab to choose the one you prefer.
Requires Forge 47.3.10 or newer. Older Forge versions will not load the mod.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Switch to English version

Right now, the Russian and English versions of the mod are released as separate files. They will be merged into one file in the future.

Important:
If you switch from RU -> EN while staying in the same world, Taber will most likely stay silent or keep speaking Russian. This happens because Minecraft stores his dialogue state inside the world save.

Solution:

1. Go to the Files tab on the mod page
2. Download the file with (ENG) in its name (it’s the second one)
3. Place this file into your mods folder and remove the old (RU) version
4. Launch Minecraft and create a new world
5. In this new world, Taber should speak English normally

Optional (advanced):

If you really want to keep your old world (this may reset Taber’s progress, so creating a new world is the safest and least buggy option):

1. close Minecraft
2. go to: **%appdata%.minecraft\saves<your world>\data**
3. delete the file: thetaber_mapvars.dat
4. start the world again

2. Give items to Taber

Interaction via Right-Click
Hold an item in your hand and right-click on Taber. Taber won't accept everything — his reaction depends on what you bring.

Items you can offer:

• Cat hair, bone, rotten flesh, gunpowder, cobweb
• Raw salmon, pufferfish, cooked cod
• All types of cooked meat (mutton, chicken, pork, rabbit, beef)
• Bread, tomato soup, cookie, enchanted golden apple
• Stick, torch, soul torch
• Poppy, cornflower, oxeye daisy

Tomato soup, cookie, and enchanted golden apple can only be obtained from Taber himself.

3. Is there a Bedrock version of the mod?

This page provides Java Edition only. Currently, there is no official Bedrock version.
Some “Taber” addons appearing in Russian Telegram communities are unofficial reskins made by fans. A proper Bedrock release may happen in the future, but there is no timeline yet.

Spoiler: Recipe

How to craft the Summoning Egg

Day 1Just survive. You can sleep through the night or wander around - it doesn’t matter.
If you're lucky enough to find iron ingots on your first day, that's awesome. Taber will notice and let you know.

Morning of Day 2Taber will make his presence known for the first time. Just keep playing as usual.

Morning of Day 3You will get 3 Cat Wool in your inventory + a note from Taber with a hint for the recipe. After that, Taber won't contact you again until you gather all the remaining resources.

Once everything is ready, Taber will get in touch with you. Crucial detail: Taber responds specifically to Raw Salmon in your inventory (cooked salmon doesn't count). After this happens, you need to wait out one full in-game day.

Morning of Day XTaber gives you the final 4th wool + the last note.
(Yeah, he deliberately didn't give you all the wool at once)

Craft the spawn egg -> congratulations, you have successfully summoned the most annoying and clingy cat in Minecraft!
Sometimes Taber may contact you with a slight delay — that’s normal. Enjoy the game!

Note from Taber: Just don’t eat the cat fur, okay? Trust me. Your stomach will thank you.
