Aquatic Plus

AquaticPlus-SmallBanner

Aquatic Plus is a vanilla-friendly mod for Minecraft (Fabric 1.20.1) that expands the diversity of life within the game’s oceans and rivers. By introducing a wide variety of aquatic creatures, from real-world fish to imaginative fantasy organisms, the mod enriches underwater environments and makes ocean ecosystems feel more alive.

Rather than focusing on a single type of creature, Aquatic Plus aims to create a vibrant marine habitat where different organisms coexist and enrich aesthetic and functionality. Players are encouraged to explore the depths and discover new forms of ocean life.

Content Overview

AquaticPlus-BigBanner

Aquatic Plus introduces over 30 new creatures, both real and fantastical, to enrich Minecraft’s oceans. These include a mix of ambient wildlife, hostile predators, and rideable entities. Although these entities serve an aesthetic purpose, they are designed with player and environmental functionality in mind. For example, parrotfish (coral reef cleansers) eat dead coral and stone to leave room for new coral to grow. Volan Aurorae fight alongside players against Guardians, and Pink Sunfish provide a beneficial status effect when players are in close proximity to it.

To emphasize the importance of functionality, Aquatic Plus adds new food, engaging loot, and new status effects. Lots of entities provide a food supply for players like Vanilla cod and salmon - for example, minnow, sardines, and tuna. Other mobs drop items that can craft combat-related loot; Lionfish spikes can be used to craft a new bow, viperfish teeth can craft a new shield, and seahorse spikes can craft swords and tridents. Aquatic Plus's combat items were also designed with functionality in mind. Many weapons have more than one attack, harness harmful status effects, or blend melee and ranged combat. The mod adds new status effects that blend in with Vanilla Minecraft, from undead poison to land suffocation. Each effect seamlessly blends with the mod's content and makes water exploration more interesting.

Purpose and Motivation

image

Aquatic Plus was born from a deep love of marine biology and a fascination with biodiversity in real-world waterbodies. I started developing the mod three years ago, and finally closed the book it in early 2026. Three years ago, I obsessed over real marine life, digging through articles and watching YouTube videos, soaking in the beauty of our world. Naturally, I used that energy to write a 35-page plan that would later materialize into Aquatic Plus. Overall, this mod is a reflection of my passion for our natural marine world's beauty (and, how important it is to conserve it).

The mod’s purpose is to enrich Minecraft’s oceans through its wide variety of creatures (real and fantastical), while remaining fully supportive of vanilla gameplay. Most of the 30+ creatures added serve functional purposes: some are ridable, others drop unique loot, and many exhibit distinctive AI behavior. These additions aim to create a vibrant and interactive underwater world that enhances exploration and discovery.

All In All...

It started with a keen interest in aquatic biodiversity, coupled with the passion of preserving Earth's natural beauty. Aquatic Plus is a Minecraft mod, but more importantly, a faint reflection of the beauty of our natural world.

Now, it's yours to discover.
