About this project
What does Murimcraft add?
Murimcraft
Murimcraft brings the martial arts and cultivation of Korean murim stories to Minecraft. You start as a Mortal, build up inner qi, join a sect and learn its fighting style. Training opens up stronger techniques, from fist combinations and sword strikes to waves of qi and domains that change the ground around you.
Cultivation and breakthroughs
Cultivation is your character's progression. Inner power is measured in years of qi. You gain progress through active play, combat, meditation and elixirs. Techniques spend qi, while your cultivation realm determines how much inner power you can hold.
There are nine realms: Mortal, Third-Rate, Second-Rate, First-Rate, Peak, Transcendent, Harmony, Profound, and Life and Death. Reaching the limit of a realm lets you attempt a breakthrough. Preparation and pills improve your chances, and major breakthroughs bring lightning tribulations. You can parry or dodge the strikes; a failed attempt can cause qi deviation and set back your progress. Worlds have four breakthrough difficulty settings, including a hardcore option where death wipes cultivation.
Where you train matters. The land holds wood, fire, earth, metal and water qi. Its balance, the time of day and the weather affect meditation. A Geomancer's Compass lets you inspect the local energy, and a Qi Gathering Array helps you cultivate at a chosen spot.
Six sects
Find a sect's site and speak to its master to join. Each sect has its own techniques and elemental affinity:
• Mount Hua uses plum-blossom sword forms, wind blades, movement techniques and counters. Its later arts include falling blade projectiles and the Plum Blossom Tempest.
• The Namgung Clan combines sword forms with lightning: Thunder Strike, Thunder Fangs and Heavenly Thunder are part of its progression.
• Shaolin teaches fist combinations, ranged punches, the Lion's Roar and golden palm strikes.
• Wudang teaches Taiji sword forms, spiralling sword waves and the Two Forces technique.
• The Heavenly Demon Cult uses crimson strikes, ink-like blade attacks and the Severing Wave. Its members call it the Divine Cult.
• The Green Forest bandits fight with cleavers, dirty kicks, lime powder and chain-hook techniques.
Your manual teaches the arts available at your current realm. Keep it and read it again after a breakthrough to learn the next ones. The current build contains 41 techniques across these six sects, including five domain techniques. Their arsenals differ in size; Green Forest currently has no domain.
Combat
Martial forms use sequences of normal attacks, with some combinations involving sneaking, jumping or the use button. Qi skills go into assignable slots and can also be cast from a radial menu. Attacks include close-range strikes, travelling waves, projectiles, dashes, counters and area attacks.
Parrying just before a hit lands prevents damage, restores qi and creates a brief opening for a stronger counterattack. A later parry reduces the damage instead. Dodging gives a short burst of movement and invulnerability. Realm differences and the five-element cycle also affect a fight.
Using a technique improves its mastery. Realm and mastery together unlock Sword Qi, Sword Thread, Sword Gang and Heart Sword, changing a technique's appearance and reach. Sword waves, petals, lightning and palm strikes have their own effects and sounds. Camera shake, hit-stop, impact flashes and cinematic sequences can be adjusted or disabled.
Domains
At Harmony level, members of Mount Hua, Namgung, Shaolin, Wudang and the Heavenly Demon Cult unlock their sect's domain. A domain surrounds its caster and moves with them, helping allies and pressuring enemies inside it. It stays open until you dismiss it or run out of qi. Rival domains clash, and a stronger one can push back or collapse a weaker one.
Domains grow as you advance, reaching radius of 10, 50 and 100 blocks across their three stages. At higher stages they also transform terrain. Mount Hua's Eternal Blossom, Shaolin's Buddha Realm, Wudang's Taiji, Namgung's Heavenly Thunder and the Heavenly Demon domain each have their own presentation.
The Persistent damage setting determines whether a domain's terrain changes remain after it closes. It is off by default, and server rules can restrict block damage or permanent changes. Powerful combat techniques can also leave marks and cuts in the landscape.
The martial world
Sect sites and villages give you places to find instructors and other cultivators. Divine Cult settlements include Nether gates linked to citadels where stronger cult members live. Their roads connect buildings, training grounds, shrines and other outlying locations.
Your actions affect your standing with the Righteous, Unorthodox and Demonic factions. Practising faction arts and killing faction members can change how their people treat you. Hostility can have consequences for joining a sect and using its arts.
The Heavenly Demon Cult also has a twelve-rank hierarchy. On multiplayer servers, members can challenge other players for occupied seats through the /cult commands. These duels require acceptance and end without killing the loser. Higher positions grant benefits, and the Heavenly Demon Divine Art is restricted to the upper ranks.
Weapons include jian, dao, staves, iron fans, throwing daggers and needles. Pills and elixirs support healing, qi recovery and breakthroughs; poisons, weapon coatings and antidotes add other options. You can build Qi Gathering Arrays, Protective Wards and Killing Arrays around a Formation Core. Wild monsters can also spawn with cultivation realms, with rare elites offering additional rewards.
Getting started
Open the Murim Guide with J. Press H while standing still on solid ground to meditate. When you reach a realm's limit, press H again while meditating to attempt a breakthrough. To join a sect, find its master and sneak-interact with them, then read the manual they give you. Some arts require a higher realm before you can learn them.
