About this project

What does Plan add?

Plan

Private creative build worlds for your survival server. Server-side only: players don't need to install anything.

Ever wanted to plan a build before spending real resources on it? Plan gives every player their own creative worlds, called projects, to design, test and experiment in. When they're done, one click puts them back exactly where they were, holding exactly what they had. Nothing from the creative world comes with them.

Features

Your own creative worlds

  • Create superflat or regular-terrain projects whenever you want, up to a limit the server sets.
  • Every project is its own separate world: no shared plots, no borders, and nobody can wander in and grief it.
  • Each project has its own Nether and End. Build a portal and it takes you there, never to the real ones.
  • Pick your superflat layers (Classic, Tunneler's Dream, Redstone Ready or your own) or type a seed, if the server allows it.
  • Each project keeps its own inventory, time of day and weather.

Build together

  • Invite a friend for one visit, or whitelist them permanently.
  • Choose which commands guests can use, what gamemode they get, and more.
  • See who's in your project and teleport to them with one click.

A real menu, no mods required

  • Type /plan and a menu appears in front of you. Look at a button and click.
  • Only you can see your menu, and it even works if it ends up inside a wall.
  • Everything is in it: creating and joining projects, invites, members, world settings, time and weather, and server settings for operators.
  • Prefer commands? Every menu action is also a /plan command.

Your survival world stays safe

  • Your real inventory is crash-proof. Your items and your project record are saved together, so even a server crash can't mix creative items into survival.
  • Creative items can't get out: no portals, minecarts, teleport items or storage links lead back to the real world.
  • Ender chests, statistics, advancements and FTB Quests progress stay separate.
  • Seeds are protected: projects never reveal your server's real world seed.

For server owners

Built for performance

  • Project worlds only exist while someone is using them. They're created the moment a player enters (usually well under a tenth of a second) and unload on their own once they're empty.
  • No pre-made dimensions. Your server only ever handles the projects actually in use, so having hundreds of projects costs nothing extra.
  • Works well with heavy modpacks: Sable, Create and other mods that do work for every dimension only see the loaded projects.
  • Fast startup, with no extra worlds to load.

Fully configurable

Change everything from the in-game menu (operators) or in config/plan-server.toml:

  • the most project worlds that can be loaded at once, and how quickly empty ones unload;
  • whether chunk loaders keep empty projects running (off by default);
  • projects per player, allowed project types, default gamemode, difficulty and mob spawning;
  • Nether and End access, guest commands, custom seeds and superflat layers;
  • a list of banned items for project worlds. Storage that links to the outside world (Ender Storage, AE2 wireless and quantum links, Refined Storage wireless, Mekanism QIO and similar) is blocked by default.

Moderation tools

  • Browse all projects on the server, then visit or delete any of them.
  • See which project worlds are loaded with /plan worlds.

Mod compatibility

  • Curios and Accessories slots are kept separate for each project.
  • Items in other mods' player slots (like worn backpacks) can't leave a project either.
  • FTB Quests can't be completed inside projects.
  • Tested with Sable.

Commands

Command What it does
/plan Open the menu
/plan create <superflat|regular> [name] Make a new project and go into it
/plan join [project] Enter a project (no name = your last one)
/plan leave Go back to where you were, with your real items
/plan invite <player> / /plan whitelist <player> Let someone in for one visit, or permanently
/plan revoke <player> Remove someone's access
/plan setspawn Set where people arrive in your project
/plan delete <name> Delete a project

Inside a project you also get /plan fill, locate, clear, gamemode, time and weather, with no operator status needed. The owner decides which of these guests can use.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • NeoForge 21.1.x (21.1.228 or newer if you also run Sable)
  • Install on the server only. Players can join with vanilla or any modded client.

FAQ

Do players need to install the mod? No. Plan runs entirely on the server, including the menu.

Will my builds be saved if nobody visits a project for a while? Yes. Unloading a world saves it first. Come back days later and it's exactly as you left it.

Does having lots of projects slow the server down? No. Only projects someone is in (or, if you allow it, ones running chunk loaders) are loaded.

What happens if the server crashes while I'm in a project? You'll either be back in survival with your survival items, or still in your project with your project items. The two can't get mixed up.

I'm updating from an older version. Do I lose anything? No. The first start upgrades everything automatically and keeps every project. See the changelog for details.
