About this project
What does Homestead Hearth add?
New Crops
Over 45 plantable crops across multiple categories.
New Food Items
Over 180 new craftable food and drink items.
Grapes & Hops
19 grape varieties and 4 hop varieties can be found growing wild in specific biomes.
Fruit & Nut Trees
17 trees that grow naturally and drop fruit from their leaves. Saplings can be planted and grown like vanilla trees.
Enhanced Soils
Two new dirt types that boost crop yields when tilled with a hoe:
- Fertilized Dirt — Tilled version gives a ~50% chance of bonus drops per item at harvest
- Enriched Dirt — Tilled version doubles all crop drops at harvest
Processing Machines
Six new crafting stations.
- Mill — Grinds grains into flour amongst other things
- Juicer — Presses fruits and nuts into juices and oils
- Oven / Stove — Bakes and cooks food items
- Cutting Board — Slices and preps ingredients. Requires a Knife
- Butcher Block — Processes carcasses into meat cuts. Requires a Butcher Knife
- Homestead Workbench — An alternate crafting station for Homestead-specific recipes. Requires a Hammer
Drying Rack
A wall-mounted block that slowly dries items over 3 in-game days.
- Any grape variety → Raisin
- Raw beef, pork, chicken, mutton, rabbit, cod, or salmon → Jerky
- Rotten Flesh → Hide
- Hide → Leather
Culture Collector
Placed near flowers, this block passively scans an 8-block radius and generates two fermentation ingredients:
- Yeast — Produced based on the total number of flowers nearby.
- Culture — Produced based on how many unique flower types are nearby.
Liquid Barrel
Stores water or milk
- Right-click with a water bucket or milk bucket to fill it completely
- Right-click with an empty jar to draw out one jar's worth at a time, getting a Jar of Water or Jar of Milk
- Right-click with a filled jar to add one unit back in
- Crouch + right-click with an empty hand to dump it out entirely
Animal Feeding System
Cows, pigs, sheep, and chickens now have a hunger mechanic. Animals will look for a nearby Trough (within 12 blocks) when hungry, eat from it, and become satisfied for one in-game day.
Trough holds up to 8 units of one feed type at a time. Three tiers of animal feed:
- Basic Feed — When the animal is later killed, it drops a small carcass 70% of the time, medium 30%.
- Quality Feed — Drops a medium carcass 70% of the time, large 30%.
- Premium Feed — Drops a large carcass 70% of the time, medium 30%.
Unfed animals drop only a small carcass. Baby animals are unaffected.
After eating and digesting (one day later), fed animals drop Dung
Portable Storage Items
Three items that open an inventory when right-clicked:
- Lunchbox — General food storage
- Produce Basket — General produce/crop storage
- Seed Pouch — Seed storage
Kitchen Counters
Decorative counter-height blocks available in all 8 vanilla wood types (Oak, Birch, Spruce, Jungle, Acacia, Dark Oak, Mangrove, Cherry). Four variants per wood type:
- Counter — Plain decorative counter surface
- Crafting Counter — Has a built-in crafting table
- Storage Counter — Has a built-in chest
- Powered Counter — Emits a redstone signal
Plate
A flat, thin block (like a shallow dish). Right-click with any item to place it on display; right-click again to pick it up.
Seed Packet
A one-use item that opens and gives you one random seed from the full pool of all Homestead crops and grape/hop varieties.
Mod Compatibility
- JEI — All six custom machine recipe types (milling, juicing, baking, cutting, butchering, workbenching) are fully browseable in JEI
- Jade — Hovering over a cow, pig, sheep, or chicken shows whether it's hungry, what feed type it last consumed, and when it will produce dung.
