Dirty Clothes

About this project
What does Dirty Clothes add?
Dirty Clothes
Armor and clothing you wear gradually gets dirty from everyday wear — walking, mining, and fighting — and loses protection the dirtier it gets, until you wash it clean.
How it works
Every armor piece (vanilla or modded) tracks a hidden Dirtiness value (0–100%), stored on the item itself.
Dirt builds up from:
- Walking / sprinting (boots, leggings)
- Breaking blocks (boots, leggings)
- Dealing or taking melee damage (chestplate, helmet)
Rain slowly rinses armor while exposed to the sky. Wading or swimming through natural water (rivers, lakes, oceans) rinses it off faster, for free.
Once a piece passes 50% dirty, its Armor and Armor Toughness start dropping — up to −30% / −50% at 100% filthy.
At 80%+ dirtiness on any piece, you'll build hunger exhaustion faster and occasionally puff dust particles.
Hover a dirty armor piece to see its dirtiness tier and percentage, in English or Thai depending on game language.
What dirty armor costs you
Once a piece crosses a configurable dirtiness threshold, its **Armor** and
**Armor Toughness** start dropping — scaled to that piece's own base stats,
so a filthy helmet only ever weakens itself, not your whole suit. Get filthy
enough (80%+ by default) and you'll also pick up extra hunger and visible
stink particles.
Washing it off
- **Water cauldron:** right-click to partially clean one piece at a time.
Never drains the cauldron. - **Soap:** craft with 1 Bone Meal + 2 Cactus → 4 Soap. Right-click a
cauldron with Soap in hand to fully clean your *entire* equipped set at
once — and grants a temporary **Freshly Washed** buff (10 minutes by
default) that blocks new dirt from building up at all while it lasts. - Rain and wading/swimming in natural water both rinse dirt off slowly on
their own, no cauldron needed.
Wetness & cross-mod temperature integration (currently 1.20.1 only)
Separately from Dirtiness, armor also tracks how **wet** it is — soaked by
rain or water, drying off on its own over time (faster if you stand near a
campfire, fire, soul fire, or lava). If you have **Tough As Nails** installed,
wet armor will make you feel colder, scaled by how many pieces are wet — a
fully soaked outfit is noticeably chillier than a single damp glove. This
integration is entirely optional: nothing changes if you don't have Tough As
Nails installed, and it can be turned off in the config either way.
Fully configurable
Every number in this mod — dirt-gain rates and amounts, the armor-penalty
curve, rinse/wash amounts, wetness gain/dry rates, temperature-drop caps, the
Freshly Washed buff duration, and more — is adjustable live from an in-game
config screen (no restart needed), reachable from the mod's entry on the Mods
list. Compatible with mods like **First Aid** that show their own armor
tooltip: a toggle lets you hide this mod's own "+X/-X Armor" tooltip lines
without disabling the actual stat penalty.
