About this project

What does Dota 2 Heroes add?

Dota 2 Heroes

Dota 2 Heroes brings hero-inspired encounters to Minecraft Forge through custom hostile mobs with distinctive models, animations, attributes, abilities, visual effects, and loot.

Development is incremental: each update expands the current heroes or introduces a new hero. The goal is to create active, boss-like encounters where players must understand each ability instead of only fighting a large health pool.

Version 1.6.0 highlights

  • Bloodseeker, Pudge, and Faceless Void now use synchronized, server-owned combat timelines with named release and impact moments.
  • Hero AI uses controlled decision windows, stable targeting, preferred combat ranges, line-of-sight checks, and weighted anti-repeat skill selection.
  • Pudge received a dedicated looping Rot overlay plus original belly, torso, and apron secondary animation.
  • Client VFX networking now rejects late or duplicated bursts and provides configurable particle-density, lifetime, and active-effect limits.
  • All three heroes safely target nearby mobs and players while excluding creative/spectator players, allies, and other Dota 2 Heroes bosses.
  • Dedicated-server separation, persistent progression, configurable skills, boss encounters, and existing world structures remain fully supported.

Currently available heroes

Bloodseeker

Bloodseeker is a player-sized hostile hero mob with a muscular, hunched model, predatory movement, a red ritual mask, feather crest, bone ornaments, and wrist blades.

Its level 1 source attributes default to:

  • 706 maximum health before the configurable Strength conversion
  • 4.0 armor before the configurable Agility conversion
  • 0.15 armor toughness
  • 8 melee attack damage
  • 0.23 movement speed

Bloodseeker is presented as a boss encounter with a synchronized, blood-themed health bar that displays Bloodseeker — Level X.

Pudge

Pudge is a massive hostile butcher boss with stitched pale skin, a blood-stained apron, heavy arms, a cleaver, and his signature Meat Hook.

Its default level 1 attributes include:

  • 900 maximum health
  • 8.0 armor and 5.0 armor toughness
  • 13 melee attack damage
  • 0.18 movement speed
  • 85% knockback resistance

Pudge has a synchronized green-and-flesh-themed boss bar that displays Pudge — Level X. Its wide model, high durability, ranged pull, damaging aura, and disabling ultimate create a slower but highly controlling encounter.

Pudge is approximately 1.5 times larger than a player before gaining Meat Shield stacks. It aggressively selects random nearby mobs or players and is not limited to attacking players.

Faceless Void

Faceless Void is a temporal melee boss with an original Minecraft-styled model, violet time effects, persistent progression, and a Sky Sanctum encounter. Time Walk rewinds recent health and crosses space with a purple afterimage trail. Time Lock can briefly stop its victim. Time Dilation weakens nearby movement and attack speed. Chronosphere rapidly expands into a large temporal field that stops other entities and projectiles while Faceless Void remains free to attack.

Its base attributes, per-level growth, Time Walk, Time Dilation, Time Lock, and Chronosphere each have configuration entries under config/dota2.

Persistent hero progression

Bloodseeker, Pudge, and Faceless Void each have independent world progression. Every hero begins at level 1. When a player defeats one, only that hero's progression advances by one level. The next encounter with that hero gains attribute growth and new or improved skill ranks. Progress is stored in the world save and is capped at level 30 by default.

The default skill path unlocks Bloodrage at level 1, Thirst at level 2, Blood Rite at level 3, and Rupture at level 4. Basic abilities can reach rank 4 and Rupture can reach rank 3. Attribute growth, unlock levels, and every per-rank skill bonus are configurable.

Pudge's default skill path unlocks Meat Hook at level 1, Rot at level 2, Meat Shield at level 3, and Dismember at level 4. Meat Hook, Rot, and Meat Shield can reach rank 4, while Dismember can reach rank 3.

Faceless Void also progresses independently through level 30. Its attributes, skill unlock levels, per-rank scaling, and experience growth are configurable; Chronosphere unlocks at level 6 and improves at levels 12 and 18 by default.

Icon comparison

The comparison below shows the supplied original Bloodseeker reference beside the Minecraft-styled Bloodseeker icon created for this mod.

Bloodseeker Altar

Registered structures named Bloodseeker Altar generate on the Overworld surface. Each altar is a hollow Bloodseeker head built primarily from Obsidian and Crying Obsidian, with Redstone Block eyes and Redstone Dust channels that resemble ritual blood.

When a player approaches the central altar, Bloodseeker rises from below the Redstone Block through blood particles and block fragments. The boss is invulnerable during the emergence sequence.

Explorer's Compass can discover the altar through the standard Minecraft structure registry. Existing saves can generate and locate altars in unexplored chunks without requiring a new world.

Creative inventory

The mod provides a dedicated Dota 2 creative tab with an original pixel-art emblem. Dedicated Bloodseeker, Pudge, and Faceless Void Spawn Eggs are available inside this tab.

Bloodseeker abilities

  • Thirst detects injured players and increases Bloodseeker's movement speed according to the lowest detected player health percentage.
  • Bloodrage applies configurable combat and movement bonuses while blood continuously drips from both hands.
  • Blood Rite forms synchronized growing eyes on the floor and overhead for 2.6 seconds. Vertical blood columns then strike the configured area and apply damage and slowing.
  • Rupture punishes every block of movement, including knockback, flight, and teleportation.

Pudge abilities

  • Meat Hook launches a visible chain toward a distant target. The first living entity caught in its path takes configurable damage and is pulled toward Pudge.
  • Rot surrounds Pudge with clearly visible green dust and toxic spores that damage and slow every living target inside its radius. It remains active during Dismember and also damages Pudge at a reduced rate.
  • Meat Shield gains one unlimited stack whenever Pudge kills a living target. Each default stack grants +100 maximum health, +0.005 armor, and +0.01× body and hitbox scale. Stacks reset when that Pudge dies.
  • Dismember gradually pulls and immobilizes a nearby target, produces continuous heavy blood sprays, damages it repeatedly, and heals Pudge for a configurable percentage of the damage. A Dismembered status icon remains visible in the target's inventory while captured. Pudge cannot move, basic attack, or cast another skill during the channel, except that an already active Rot continues dealing damage.

Faceless Void abilities

  • Time Walk rewinds recent damage and blinks across space with a violet temporal trail.
  • Time Dilation releases a temporal wave that reduces nearby movement and attack speed.
  • Time Lock gives basic attacks a rank-scaled chance to stop the victim and deal bonus magic damage.
  • Chronosphere expands into a large temporal field that stops other living entities, items, and projectiles while Faceless Void remains free to move.

User configuration

All hero and skill values are exposed through readable Forge TOML files:

  • config/dota2/hero_skills/faceless_void_time_lock.toml
  • config/dota2/hero_skills/faceless_void_chronosphere.toml

Client-side VFX limits and density can be adjusted in config/dota2/client-vfx.toml.

Loot integration

When Dota 2 Items is installed, Bloodseeker can drop Blade of Attack and Claymore. Without it, Bloodseeker uses configurable-friendly vanilla fallback loot: Iron Sword, Iron Ingots, and Redstone.

Pudge uses a configurable loot array. Its defaults are:

  • Belt of Strength: 5% chance, 0–1
  • Circlet: 5% chance, 0–1
  • Raw Beef: 80% chance, 6–10
  • Experience: 300 at level 1, increasing with Pudge's current hero level

Missing optional-mod items are skipped safely.

How to spawn the heroes

Use their Spawn Eggs or run:

/summon dota2heroes:bloodseeker

/summon dota2heroes:pudge

/summon dota2heroes:faceless_void
