About this project
What does Multi-XP add?
XP Multiplier
Decide what XP is worth on your server. Per ore, per mob, per catch, per furnace load, per bred animal, per villager trade, per emptied composter, per thrown XP bottle, plus what the enchanting table and the anvil charge for it, an optional dimension/biome layer on top, and a weapon enchantment of the mod's own that rewards players with extra mob XP. One config file, no restart, and nothing for your players to install.
What it does
XP Multiplier is a lightweight, server-side NeoForge mod that scales the experience players get from mining, killing mobs, fishing, smelting, breeding animals, trading with villagers, emptying composters, throwing XP bottles and disenchanting at a grindstone, and the levels an enchanting table or an anvil takes back off them. Every source has its own multiplier, so you can hand out triple XP for diamond ore, cut zombie XP in half, make the Wither actually worth the fight and leave everything else exactly like vanilla.
Set a value to 1.0 and nothing changes. Set it to 0 and that source stops giving XP entirely. Anything in between works too: 2.5, 0.75, whatever fits your progression.
Why use this mod
- Shape progression to fit your server. Speed up leveling on casual or small-group servers, or slow it down for a harder survival grind.
- Reward the activities you want to encourage. Double XP from mining, reduced XP from easy mobs, a real payoff for treasure fishing instead of junk catches, extra XP for kills made with the mod's own weapon enchantment.
- Tune the XP economy, not just the numbers. Turn on a source vanilla never had (composting), stack a dimension or biome bonus on top, or widen how far and how long an orb sticks around for AFK setups.
- No client-side hassle. It's server-side only, so players don't install or configure anything; they just notice the game feels different.
- Change your mind without a restart. The config is hot-reloadable, so you can tune values live and see the effect immediately, and
/xpmultiplier reloadconfirms an edit actually took. - Nothing breaks by surprise. Every jar is built and locked to one specific Minecraft version, so it either loads correctly or doesn't load at all.
Features
- Per-ore multipliers for Coal, Iron, Gold, Redstone, Lapis, Diamond, Emerald and Nether Quartz. Deepslate variants count as the same ore, so you only configure it once, and nether gold ore counts as gold. There is an
ancientDebriskey too, but vanilla ancient debris drops no XP at all; it only matters alongside a mod that changes that. - Per-mob multipliers for around 28 common hostile and neutral mobs: Zombie, Skeleton, Spider, Creeper, Enderman, Wither Skeleton, Blaze, Piglin, Warden and more.
- Separate boss multiplier for the Wither and the Ender Dragon, so bosses don't get dragged along by the regular mob values.
- Fishing multipliers with a base value plus separate values for the three vanilla loot pools: fish, treasure and junk. Reward treasure hunting without buffing rotten flesh.
- Smelting multiplier for the XP you collect from a furnace, blast furnace or smoker. It scales the recipe's XP itself, so it also works for the cheap recipes that only pay a fraction of a point per item.
- Enchanting cost multiplier for the levels an enchanting table charges. This one runs the other way round: higher means more expensive,
0means free. It is also one of only two values that ignore the global fallback, so more XP on your server doesn't quietly mean pricier enchanting. Lapis cost and the level requirement shown on the slots stay vanilla. - Breeding multiplier for the XP a successful breed drops. Vanilla pays the same 1-7 XP whatever you bred, so this is one value rather than a list per animal. Turtles, frogs and sniffers are included, even though they lay an egg instead of spawning a baby.
- Anvil cost multiplier for the levels an anvil charges to repair, combine or rename. Same direction as the enchanting one: higher is more expensive,
0is free. It ignores the global fallback for the same reason. One thing to know before turning it down: the game decides whether a repair is possible at all before the multiplier applies, so it makes normal work cheaper but does not revive anything that already says "Too Expensive!". - Grindstone multiplier for the XP you get back when a grindstone strips the enchantments off an item.
- Trading multiplier for the XP a completed villager trade drops. It's the usual answer to a trading hall that outpaces everything else on the server, and wandering traders use the same value.
- Per-block multipliers for monster spawners and the three sculk blocks, the only blocks besides ores that give XP when mined. Calibrated sculk sensors follow the sensor value.
- Composting multiplier for emptying a full composter by hand. Vanilla gives no XP at all for this, so
compostingMultipliercreates a source rather than scaling one. It's off (0) by default and not affected by the global fallback, so it never turns on by accident. A farmer villager emptying its own composter never triggers it. - Experience Ripper, the mod's own weapon enchantment: five levels for swords, axes and the mace, each level adding more XP to a mob killed with it (a level V weapon doubles a mob's XP by default). Found at the enchanting table and on traded books like any vanilla enchantment, and a plain vanilla client sees it by name without installing anything.
- Bottle multiplier for the XP a thrown experience bottle grants on impact.
- Optional dimension/biome multiplier, off by default, that stacks another factor on top of whatever a source's own multiplier already worked out. Useful for a Nether that pays out more, or a deep dark that pays out less.
- XP orb pickup radius and despawn time. Widen or narrow how far an orb searches for a player to follow (vanilla: 8 blocks) and how long an uncollected orb lingers before vanishing (vanilla: 6000 ticks / 5 minutes), handy for AFK mob farms.
- Custom entries by registry id or tag for everything the lists above don't know. Your pack's ores and mobs can be addressed either one at a time (
mekanism:osmium_ore) or a whole family at once (#c:ores/lead), no fork and no waiting for the mod to add support. - Global fallback for every XP source that isn't listed individually.
- Reload check.
/xpmultiplier reload(operators only) reports how many values currently differ from vanilla as a chat line. - Master switch, debug logging and rounding controls. Turn the whole mod off without removing the jar, log every scaled event to check the config is doing what you expect, and choose how fractional XP rounds (
NEAREST,FLOOR,CEIL,STOCHASTIC), plus a floor and ceiling for any single event. - Server-side only. Players join with a vanilla client and never notice the mod is there.
- Hot-reloadable. Edit the config and reload it, no restart needed.

Installation
- Install NeoForge for your Minecraft version on the server.
- Drop the matching jar into the server's
mods/folder. - Start the server once to generate
config/xpmultiplier-server.toml, edit the values you care about, then reload the config or restart.
Clients don't need the mod. Players simply receive whatever XP the server hands out. Experience Ripper is the one exception, and even that needs nothing installed, since NeoForge syncs the enchantment registry to vanilla clients automatically.
Compatibility with other mods
Ore, mob and block XP are changed through the standard NeoForge events, so other mods that modify XP for the same block or kill still get their say. Fishing loot the mod doesn't recognise (anything added by another mod, for example) is scaled with the base fishing value rather than being skipped. Modded ores and mobs can also be targeted directly through [custom], by registry id or by tag, without waiting on the mod to add them by name.
Smelting, enchanting, breeding, trading, composting and the experience bottle are handled with small mixins instead, because no event reaches those numbers in time. The smelting one scales the XP of whatever recipe was cooked, so recipes added by other mods are covered as well; the enchanting one scales the levels the table charges, and leaves the lapis cost and the level requirement on the three slots alone; the breeding and trading ones sit where vanilla rolls the XP for a successful breed or completed trade, so modded animals and merchants that use the normal code paths are covered too.
