About this project
What does Obsidian Watch add?
Obsidian Watch
Local Ban Panel & Server Protection
Note: A setup video and full wiki are coming soon.
Obsidian Watch will not interfere with your current bans
Obsidian Watch does not overwrite, remove, or modify your existing server ban list.
Your current bans stay where they are. Obsidian Watch can import them into its local panel so you can review, search, and manage them more easily. Because apparently digging through ban files like it is 2012 is not peak server administration.
About
Obsidian Watch is a local-first moderation and ban management panel for modern Minecraft servers and networks.
It gives server owners a clean web dashboard directly from the mod or plugin. No separate website setup is required. No external account is required. No cloud service is required for normal use.
The panel lets you import bans, search player records, check UUIDs, review imported data, and choose what should happen when a flagged player joins your server.
Obsidian Watch is designed for busy server owners who want simple tools, safe defaults, and less messy moderation work.
It is useful for:
- Public Minecraft servers
- Modded networks
- SMP communities
- Staff teams
- Servers that need searchable ban history
- Networks that want local control before adding shared/global systems later
Everything starts local to your server. Global sharing is not required and is disabled by default.
Main Features
- Local web dashboard
- No required external website
- Import existing server bans
- Search by player name, UUID, reason, record ID, or IP hash
- Add manual player records
- Review imported bans before using them
- Watch, kick, tempban, or ban actions
- Safe permanent-ban protection
- Local join logs
- Privacy-first IP handling
- Multi-language dashboard
- Mobile and tablet responsive panel
Simple Setup
- Download the correct Obsidian Watch file for your server platform
- Place it in your
modsorpluginsfolder - Restart your server
- Run
/ow status - Run
/ow core url - Open the dashboard link
- Start with Watch only mode
- Import your current bans when ready
Opening the Panel
Run:
/ow core url
This gives you the local dashboard link.
If the link uses 127.0.0.1, it means the panel is available on the same machine running the server.
For hosted or remote servers, you may need to open the panel from the server machine or configure proper network access.
Importing Existing Bans
Run:
/ow import bans run
This scans your current server ban files and adds them into the Obsidian Watch dashboard for review.
Imported bans are not automatically shared globally. They stay local to your server.
Searching Player Records
Use the search bar in the dashboard to search for:
- Player names
- UUIDs
- Ban reasons
- Record IDs
- IP hashes
This makes it easier for staff to check a player quickly without crawling through old files.
Actions
Obsidian Watch supports simple enforcement actions:
- Watch only
- Kick
- Tempban
- Ban
For most servers, start with Watch only or Kick first.
Permanent bans should only be enabled once you are confident your records and rules are correct.
Command List
/ow/ow status/ow privacy/ow reload/ow sync/ow core url/ow core token/ow check <player>/ow import bans preview/ow import bans run
Permissions
obsidianwatch.adminobsidianwatch.notifyobsidianwatch.exempt
Safety Defaults
Obsidian Watch ships with conservative safety defaults:
- Global sharing is disabled
- Global pull is disabled
- Global push is disabled
- Records stay local
- Raw IPs are hidden
- IP records use hashes
- Imported bans require review
- Permanent bans are gated
- Real bans must be explicitly enabled
Permanent bans require deliberate configuration before they can be used.
This helps prevent accidental moderation disasters!
Language Support
The dashboard includes language support for:
- English
- French
- German
- Spanish
- Polish
- Swedish
- Danish
- Italian
- Portuguese
- Indonesian
Recommended First Setup
- Install Obsidian Watch
- Run
/ow status - Run
/ow core url - Open the dashboard
- Run
/ow import bans run - Review imported bans
- Keep enforcement on Watch only at first
- Move trusted records to Kick or Tempban later
- Only enable permanent bans if you know exactly what you are doing
Author
I run a heavily modded Minecraft network called MTC / More Than Core.
Large public modded servers are difficult to manage. Players join with different intentions, modpacks are complex, and staff need tools that make moderation faster, clearer, and safer.
Obsidian Watch was built to give server owners a cleaner way to manage bans, review risky players, search local records, and protect their communities before problems grow into larger issues.
The goal is simple: better moderation tools for modern Minecraft servers without forcing every owner to depend on an external service.
Next Plans
- Improve the dashboard pages
- Expand platform support
- Add stronger import tools
- Add more record review options
- Improve staff notifications
- Add optional global sharing later
- Add better evidence and revision systems
- Continue improving safety defaults
