About this project

What does Sanity: Descent Into Madness (Resync) add?

NOTE: I have played with the original mod a lot, every bug or problem I recorded during gameplay is fixed here, so this isn't just a random rework actually, its 6 month of experience, I have already configured the mod, but if you want to create your own experience the new features are togglable, and everything is configurable, and I made the mod more compatible mixins and shaders now are more visible in heavy modpacks, although I still need to check hourglass and other sleep mods in the feature, to add compat, I will try to put images and videos, if possible to showcase the new features.

try to report issues here in the comments if you ran into any, I will try to fix it.

🧠 Sanity: Descent Into Madness (Resync)

A completely rebuilt, feature-rich revival of the ultimate psychological survival experience!

Are you ready to face the dark corners of your own mind? Sanity: Descent Into Madness (Resync) is a massive refurbishment and continuation of the original, beloved Sanity mod. While preserving the core vision and respecting all the original features of the creator, this version features a completely rewritten codebase optimized for modern gameplay, alongside a treasure trove of new mechanics, items, shaders, and highly customizable configuration options, almost everything is configurable now.

Survive the night, but more importantly, survive your own mind. Monitor your Sanity through an immersive, dynamic UI, battle terrifying inner demons, and manage your mental health with an all-new sleep, deprivation, and medication system.

📖 Quick Start Guide & Mechanics

Your mental state is delicate. Everything you do in the world affects your sanity. The Sanity Indicator: Watch the brain UI on your screen. As it empties and begins to twitch, you are descending into madness. Stay Sane: Positive actions like breeding animals, trading with villagers, eating good food, potting flowers, wearing a Garland, or walking on cozy dirt paths/carpets will slowly restore your mind. Avoid the Dark: Standing in pitch-black darkness, getting soaked in the rain, trampling farmland, staring at Endermen, or being near hostile monsters will rapidly drain your sanity.

If your sanity drops too low... the world around you will begin to change. You will hear things that aren't there, see the world distort, and eventually, your nightmares will manifest into reality.

✨ Resync Features & Massive Additions

This mod has been deeply expanded. Here are the core features powering this new refurbished version:

⚙️ Ultimate In-Game Configuration GUI

Forget restarting your game to tweak a config file. The entire mod can now be configured in-game via a beautiful UI!

  • Dimension Specific Rules: Set different sanity rules for the Overworld, Nether, End, or modded dimensions!
  • Live Server Sync: If you are a Server Owner or OP (Level 4), changes made in your client GUI will instantly sync and save to the server!
  • Granular Control: Tweak literally everything: passive sanity rates, entity damage, shader intensity, UI placement, and cooldowns.

💤 Overhauled Sleep & Deprivation Mechanics

Sleeping isn't just a fast-forward button anymore; it's a vital biological need with heavy consequences.

  • Optimal Sleep: Get just the right amount of sleep to restore sanity.
  • Sleep Deprivation: Refusing to sleep will grant you a stacking deprivation penalty, drastically reducing your movement speed.
  • Oversleeping Penalties: Sleep too much, and you will suffer from terrifying nightmares! Waking up from a nightmare forces you into an "Insomnia" state, trapping you awake until the panic subsides.

💊 Medication & Toxicity System

Desperate times call for chemical intervention. But be warned: every drug has a price.

  • Antidepressants & Beta Blockers: Instantly restore sanity, but increase your body's Toxicity level.
  • Sleeping Pills: Force yourself to be awake and recover from nightmares, but puts you in a vulnerable recovery state.
  • Dimensional Stabilizers: Specialized pills for the Nether, End, and Modded Dimensions. Warning: Taking the wrong stabilizer in the wrong dimension will cause your body to violently reject it!
  • Overdosing: Take too many pills, and high Toxicity will ravage your body—inflicting Weakness, Slowness, Poison, and severe Nausea. (Hint: Golden Apples help cleanse toxicity!)

👁️ Dynamic Shaders, Paranoia & Visual Blackouts

Your descent into madness is beautifully terrifying, using lightweight, highly-optimized client shaders.

  • Visual Distortions: Colors drain from the world (desaturation), the edges of your vision darken (vignette), and heavy chromatic aberration sets in.
  • Camera Wobble & Nausea: Your FOV will heave and breathe, and your camera will sway as you lose your grip on reality.
  • Audio Paranoia: Hear your own heartbeat, deafening ear-ringing, and fake sounds (creepers hissing, footsteps behind you, chests opening) when no one is there.
  • The Blackout: At high insanity, innocent farm animals (Pigs, Cows, Sheep, Chickens) will mutate into pitch-black shadow figures with glowing eyes, and their sounds will be replaced by unsettling, eerie noises.

👻 Inner Entities (Hallucinations)

When your mind completely breaks, they come for you.

  • Rotting Stalker & Sneaking Terror: Two horrifying entities that spawn just out of sight.
  • Configurable Danger: By default, they are terrifying hallucinations. However, through the config, you can allow them to deal actual, physical damage to you!
  • Multiplayer Sight: Sane players cannot see your hallucinations... unless you enable "Sane Players See Entities" in the config!

🤝 Multiplayer Auras

  • Shared Trauma: Being near Sane players slowly restores your mind. However, spending too much time near highly Insane players will passively drain your sanity as their panic bleeds into you!

⚠️ Important Notes & Caveats

While this mod is highly customizable, keep these mechanics in mind to survive: Garland Decay: The Garland is a great early-game sanity protector, but standing in water or rain will cause it to rot and lose durability twice as fast! Jukeboxes: Music helps! But be careful—playing unsettling discs (Disc 5, 11, or 13) will project an aura of dread that drains sanity instead. Fatal Sanity: If you let your sanity reach absolute zero, you will begin taking direct magic damage until you recover or perish.

Stay in the light, take your stabilizers, and don't look behind you...
