About this project

What does Dungeon Difficulty Additions add?

Ko-fi

Dungeon Difficulty Addition is an expansion and compatibility mod for Dungeon Difficulty, focused on expanding equipment progression and better modded equipment support.

Requires Dungeon Difficulty: Dungeon Difficulty Page

🏷️ Item Level Badges

You can now see an item's level directly on its item slot.

A small level badge is displayed on leveled equipment, making it easy to check and compare your gear at a glance.

This makes managing equipment much easier when sorting loot, comparing upgrades, or preparing for higher-level encounters.

⚔️ Fixed Item Levels & Crafting

Assign any item a fixed Level through fixed_item_levels.json.

  • Supports item IDs, Java regex, weapons, armor, accessories, boss drops, crafting, and smithing.
  • Unlisted items continue to use Dungeon Difficulty's normal scaling.
  • Scalable Items can start at a minimum of Level 1 instead of having no level. This can be disabled in the config.
  • Fixed levels automatically apply to configured crafting and smithing outputs.
  • JEI/EMI can show the correct level and scaled stats before crafting, including supported modded recipe categories.

💎 RPG Series Compatibility

Extends Dungeon Difficulty scaling to additional RPG Series equipment not currently supported by Dungeon Difficulty.

Jewelry

  • Scales accessory attributes with item level.
  • Supports both generated and fixed-level Jewelry.
  • Preserves existing accessory modifiers.

Relics

  • Scales Relic attributes and their actual active/proc effects.
  • Updates Relic tooltips to show the real scaled values.

Both integrations are optional.

⚔️ Encounter Scaling (Disable by Default)

Equipment levels matter when taking on tougher enemies. You can still challenge enemies above your gear level, but going in undergeared is much more dangerous.

How it works

When fighting a higher-level enemy:

  • 🛡️ Lower-level armor → You take more damage.
  • ⚔️ Lower-level weapon → You deal less damage.
  • 📈 Bigger level gap → Stronger penalties.

The system encourage you to have certain amount of that level gear (default: 3 piece) to be effective to the challenge. More in the Config Wiki.

Can I still fight higher-level enemies?

Absolutely!

Nothing stops you from entering a high-level dungeon or challenging a powerful enemy early. If you’re skilled enough, you can still try — just expect the fight to be much harder if your equipment isn’t ready.

Once your gear matches the encounter level, the penalties disappear.

🔨 Salvaging & Ascension

Unwanted leveled equipment doesn't have to go to waste.

Salvage unused gear into fragments that can be turned into Ascension Gems, then use those gems to increase the level of equipment you want to keep.

  • ⚔️ Salvage you Weapons, Armor, and Accessories on an anvil.
  • 💎 Upgrade equipment one level at a time.
  • 🔨 Higher-level equipment requires better Salvage Hammers.
  • ⚙️ Fully configurable for modpack creators.

Turn unused loot into progress toward your next upgrade.
