About this project
What does Trial Sword Altar add?
Trial Sword Altar
Raise the sword. Begin the trial.
Trial Sword Altar adds an animated summoning altar, dedicated boss summon tokens, and the Sacred Arena dimension to Minecraft. Originally created for the Elemental Awakening modpack, it gives players a dedicated place to begin their battles and lets modpack creators customize what they can summon.

A Monument to Your Next Challenge
Built around a floating sword and orbiting blades, the altar combines dark crimson details with a custom summoning interface.
- Faces the player when placed.
- Emits light.
- Resists explosions and destruction by mobs.
- Can be retrieved by sneaking and left-clicking.
- Returns its stored items when retrieved, provided your inventory has enough space.
The altar cannot be retrieved while a summon is in progress.
Prepare Your Summon
Open the altar, insert a summon token or another configured offering, and check the displayed target. Press Summon to begin the countdown.
Built-in boss summons use a 10-second countdown. The required offering is consumed after the creature successfully spawns.

Boss Mod Integrations
The mod includes 22 dedicated boss summon tokens across four optional integrations:
- L_Ender's Cataclysm — 8 tokens
- Legendary Monsters — 3 tokens
- Gathering Torches Become Sunlight — 7 tokens
- EEEAB's Mobs — 4 tokens
Each token identifies its corresponding boss and uses Epic item rarity. Tokens for available targets appear in the mod's Creative Mode tab.
The corresponding boss mod must be installed to use its summon tokens. Trial Sword Altar does not include the bosses themselves.
Enter the Sacred Arena

Use the Sacred Arena Teleporter to enter a dedicated arena dimension built for combat.
The arena protects its structure against mob destruction, explosion damage to blocks, and ordinary block breaking or placement. Natural mob spawning is suppressed, while intentional summons remain available.
Players can still take combat damage, and the Trial Sword Altar can be retrieved and placed again in an empty space within the arena.
The teleporter is reusable and is not consumed on use.
Travel note: The teleporter currently provides one-way entry. Modpacks and servers should provide a separate way to return.
Customize Your Trials
Summoning rules can be configured in:
config/trial_sword_altar.json
Modpack creators and server owners can define:
- The entity to summon
- Entity NBT data
- The required offering and its quantity
- Item NBT requirements
- The summoning delay
Custom configuration entries take priority over matching built-in token rules.
This allows the altar to support additional creatures and custom encounters beyond its included boss integrations.
Getting Started
- Obtain a Trial Sword Altar and a supported summon token.
- Place the altar and right-click to open it.
- Insert the token and check the target.
- Press Summon.
- Prepare for battle!
The altar, teleporter, and summon tokens are currently available through Creative Mode or commands. Modpack creators can add their own recipes, quest rewards, or loot distribution.
