About this project

What does Zombie Infection Expansion add?

Description

Zombie Infection Expansion greatly enhances the AI and growth mechanics of vanilla zombies, turning zombies into a genuine survival threat. After installing this mod, zombies will actively attack nearly all creatures. Any target struck will receive the "Zombie Infection" effect; if a creature dies while infected, a brand-new zombie spawns at its death location. Meanwhile, every enemy a zombie slays permanently strengthens it, creating an escalating snowball threat.

Mechanic Breakdown

Zombie Target Priorities Vanilla zombies only target players and villagers. With this mod installed, zombie aggression range is drastically expanded. Zombies actively attack all living entities except other zombies and creepers, including pigs, cows, sheep, wolves, iron golems, skeletons, spiders, and more.

Infection Effect (Zombie Infection)

When a zombie lands an attack on a target, the target gains the Zombie Infection status effect for 60 seconds. Green particles continuously emit from the feet of affected entities as a visual indicator of infection. The effect itself deals no damage; it only marks entities as infected. Infection Death – Spawn New Zombie If an infected creature dies while the effect is active, a new zombie immediately spawns at the entity’s death position. The newly spawned zombie inherits all equipment worn by the original creature. Offspring zombies inherit a portion of stats from their parent zombie: Base Max Health = 1 HP (half of vanilla zombie’s 20 HP) + 70% of the parent’s accumulated bonus health Base Attack Damage = 1.5 damage (half of vanilla zombie’s 3 damage) + 70% of the parent’s accumulated bonus attack damage

Thorns Reflection Damage

When a player or any mob kills a zombie, the killer receives reflected damage equal to 20% of their own attack power. The damage source displays as Thorns and cannot be negated.

Balance Restriction

To avoid performance issues caused by infinite infection chains, infection propagation is limited to a maximum of 3 generations: Zombie A infects Creature B → B dies and spawns Zombie C → Zombie C can spread infection further, but any Creature D infected by Zombie C will NOT spawn another zombie upon death.

Zombie Growth – Kill-Based Scaling

Each time a zombie kills any enemy that is not a zombie or creeper, it gains permanent stat boosts: Max Health +1, and health is fully restored instantly Attack Damage +1

These bonuses accumulate permanently and never decay over time. A zombie that survives long enough and secures enough kills can grow into an extremely powerful high-health, high-damage monster. Growth attributes are also passed down to offspring zombies generated via infection chains at a 70% inheritance rate. Configuration

Note!

The configuration file will only generate after launching the game once. The config file path: .minecraft/config/zombie_infection_mod_1782878027-common.toml. You may edit the available options outside of the game.
