About this project
What does Silk Road add?
Silk Road was created for the Echoes of the Past mod jam!
In earth's history, the silk road was a massive 4,000-mile web of land and sea trails that connected traders across the entire globe.
The mod also adds tamed companion camels, wandering merchants, and valuable loot to Minecraft's Overworld along with a new sense of order and direction! Meet traveling caravans and create your own with a (new!) pet camel!
Features
Silk Road creates a network of winding trade roads across the Overworld, populated by merchants, camel camps, loot chests, and tameable companion camels.
Silk Roads
Roads generate automatically in newly generated Overworld chunks. They:
- Generate naturally through terrain
- Connect nearby villages
- Major trails cross rivers, coasts, forests, mountains, and other biomes
- Include bridges, supports, ladders, grass shoulders, and decorative lighting
- Stay generally between Y=63 and Y=114
- Appear roughly every 448 blocks, with larger highway routes approximately every 1,000 blocks
Roads are generated progressively to reduce server performance spikes.
Villages
When possible, Silk Road roads connect to nearby villages. Connectors are shaped to meet village entrances and avoid unsuitable terrain. Village structures and containers are protected during road generation.
## Requirements
- Minecraft 26.2 Latest
- Fabric API
Optional compatibility:
- Biomes O' Plenty
- Lootr
Admin Tools (mostly for dev use)
Use the following commands in-game:
/silkroad locate
Finds the nearest Silk Road and reports its coordinates.
/silkroad status
Reports whether you are on a road and shows pending road-generation work.
/silkroad repair
Refreshes the nearest road section if it is missing or damaged.
Camel Camps
Newly generated road chunks can contain camel camps. Camps include:
- A Silk Road Camel
- A loot chest
- Decorative fencing, hay, campfires, and other camp details
Camel camps are uncommon, so exploration is encouraged.
Camp chests use randomized loot tiers:
- Poor: cake, emeralds, and Swiftness potions
- Average: emeralds, iron, name tags, and Swiftness potions
- Good: diamonds, emeralds, iron, and name tags
Taming Silk Road Camels
- Find a Silk Road Camel at a camel camp.
- Hold a cactus.
- Interact with the untamed camel.
- The cactus is consumed and the camel becomes yours.
- The camel receives a saddle automatically.
You can own a maximum of five Silk Road Camels. Use this command to find them:
/camels
The command lists each tamed camel's coordinates and dimension.
Camel Controls
- Interact normally to mount the camel.
- Sneak-interact to toggle the camel's stay/follow behavior.
- When following, it follows you if it gets more than four blocks away.
- Tamed camels automatically receive a saddle.
- Tamed camels move faster when ridden without sprinting.
Road Merchants
Some newly generated road sections can spawn named merchants, including:
- Silk Merchant
- Desert Caravaner
- Mountain Peddler
- Spice Trader
- Road Scholar
These merchants have custom trades and remain available for a limited period. Prices vary by merchant type.
Typical trades include:
| Cost | Reward |
|---|---|
| Emeralds | Silk Bundles |
| Emeralds | Spiced Tea |
| Road Tokens | Ender Pearls |
| Emeralds | Traveller's Charm |
| Gold Ingots | Road Tokens |
Mod Items
- Silk Bundle: A valuable merchant good; stacks to 16.
- Spiced Tea: A merchant trade item; stacks to 16.
- Road Token: A special merchant currency; stacks to 64.
- Traveller's Charm: A rare merchant item; stacks to 1.
Existing Worlds
For best results, install Silk Road before exploring new areas.
In an existing world:
- New roads generate as you explore new Overworld chunks.
- Previously generated chunks may not receive roads automatically.
- Use
/silkroad repairnear a road location if a generated section needs refreshing. - Back up your world before adding the mod to an established save.
If A Road Is incomplete or damaged and you want to fix it
Stand near the affected area and run /silkroad repair.
