About this project
What does PixelSprites+ add?
PixelSprites+
Every Pokémon sprite in your menus — alive.
PixelSprites+ replaces Pixelmon's static 2D sprites with fully animated ones: your party sidebar, PC boxes, summary screens, trades, day care — everywhere a sprite appears, your Pokémon now breathes, blinks, sways, and idles in real time.
No resource packs. No downloads of extra assets. The animations are generated on your machine from the 3D models and animations Pixelmon already ships — which means every species, every form, every shiny works automatically, including custom species and forms added by the server you play on.
✨ Features
- Living sprites everywhere — party overlay, PC, summary, trade screens, day care, dex tabs: one mod covers every menu at once
- The full dex, automatically — all species, regional forms, Megas, shinies, and even server-custom Pokémon; anything with a model animates
- Smooth 30 FPS playback — real idle animations at real speed, not slideshows
- Crisp high-resolution rendering — sprites are generated at 4× the resolution of the stock 32×32 images, with proper anti-aliasing and texture filtering
- One-key toggle — press H any time to switch between living sprites and the classic 2D look; your choice is remembered between sessions
- Grounded stances — flying legendaries are shown standing in their sprites, not mid-flap
⚙️ Performance
Built to be invisible on your frame rate:
- All sprite generation runs on background threads — your FPS is untouched while sprites bake
- Each species is generated once per session, the first time you see it, then cached
- Only sprites currently on screen animate; everything else sleeps
- Memory is hard-capped with automatic cleanup of sprites you haven't seen recently
- Zero server load — this is a 100% client-side mod
🔌 Compatibility
- Works on any server — vanilla Pixelmon servers, modpacks, singleplayer; the server needs nothing installed
- Safe by design — if a sprite can't be generated for any reason, the stock 2D sprite shows instead. The worst case is always exactly the vanilla look
- Plays nice with sidemods and resource packs
- Eggs keep their egg sprites (no spoilers!)

❓ FAQ
Do other players need this installed? No. It's purely visual and purely client-side — install it for yourself and it works everywhere you play.
Will this lag my game? No. Generation happens in the background, playback is a tiny texture update, and machines that run Pixelmon comfortably won't notice PixelSprites+ at all.
A sprite looks odd / isn't animating — is that a bug? A few species have unusual model data; those quietly keep their classic sprite instead of breaking. Report them and they can be tuned in an update.
Can I go back to the classic sprites? Any time — press H (rebindable in Controls under "PixelSprites+").
