About this project

What does SmoothCore add?

SmoothCore ⚡

SmoothCore is a client-side performance mod for Minecraft focused on smoother frame times, better 1% lows, reduced micro-stutter, and more stable gameplay during heavy scenes.

SmoothCore is not built only to increase the maximum FPS number. Its main goal is to make the game feel smoother by reducing, reusing, limiting, delaying, or skipping unnecessary visual work when Minecraft becomes demanding.

It helps during exploration, entity-heavy areas, farms, particle-heavy scenes, chunk activity, and modded gameplay.

✨ Features

✔ Adaptive Frame-Time Guardian

SmoothCore monitors frame time and reacts when the game starts struggling.

It can detect pressure caused by:

  • CPU
  • GPU
  • entities
  • particles
  • chunks
  • memory / GC

Based on the detected bottleneck, SmoothCore adjusts its optimization level automatically.

✔ Entity Optimization

SmoothCore reduces expensive entity rendering work while keeping nearby and important entities safe.

Includes:

  • Entity Render LOD
  • render-state reuse
  • animation skipping
  • per-frame Dynamic Entity Budget
  • safe entity culling
  • density-aware optimization

Protected entities include players, the camera entity, nearby entities, and gameplay-relevant entities.

✔ Block Entity Optimization

SmoothCore can optimize distant or static block entities by reusing cached render states and safely skipping low-priority work.

Includes:

  • Block Entity LOD
  • render-state reuse
  • safe block entity culling
  • static sign optimization
  • automatic cache invalidation when sign content changes

This helps in areas with many signs, containers, or other block entities.

✔ Particle Optimization

SmoothCore can limit excessive particle creation and reduce update work from low-priority particles.

Important particles receive higher priority, while distant or less important particles can be reduced more aggressively during performance drops.

✔ Chunk Render Guard

On vanilla rendering, SmoothCore can spread chunk rebuild and upload pressure across multiple frames to reduce spikes.

When Sodium or Nvidium is detected, overlapping vanilla chunk hooks are automatically disabled to avoid duplicate work.

✔ GPU-Aware Work Reduction

When GPU pressure rises, SmoothCore can reduce distant or low-priority visual work first.

This helps keep frame times more stable without changing gameplay mechanics.

✔ World Transition Guard

SmoothCore protects its automatic calibration from large temporary spikes caused by:

  • joining a world
  • leaving a world
  • changing dimensions
  • portal transitions

These spikes are ignored so they do not incorrectly affect long-term tuning.

✔ Smart Sound Culling

SmoothCore can skip very distant or excessive duplicate sounds.

It uses fail-safe behavior so unknown sounds or modded sounds are passed back to vanilla instead of breaking.

✔ GUI Text Cache

Repeated GUI text work can be cached to reduce small but frequent interface costs.

⚙️ Presets

SmoothCore includes simple presets:

  • Safe – light optimization, best compatibility.
  • Balanced – recommended for most players.
  • Boost – stronger optimization for heavier scenes.
  • Ultra – aggressive performance-focused optimization.
  • Auto – lets SmoothCore adapt to your system and world.

📊 Performance Dashboard

SmoothCore includes a performance dashboard showing what the mod is actually doing.

Stats include:

  • Entities reused
  • Entities culled
  • Animation updates skipped
  • Block entities reused
  • Block entities culled
  • Signs reused
  • Particles prevented
  • Particle ticks skipped
  • Sounds culled
  • GUI cache hits
  • Chunk rebuilds deferred
  • Frame-time pressure

This makes it easier to verify that SmoothCore systems are active and helping in your current world.

🧪 Built-in A/B Benchmark

Use:

/smoothcore benchmark

This runs a temporary A/B comparison inside the same game session.

It compares:

  • SmoothCore active
  • SmoothCore optimizations temporarily bypassed

Metrics include:

  • Average FPS
  • Average Frame Time
  • Approximate 1% Low
  • Percentage comparison between both states

The benchmark helps estimate how much SmoothCore is affecting performance on your machine, in your current world, and with your modpack.

🔧 Compatibility

SmoothCore is designed to coexist with other performance and utility mods.

Supported compatibility handling includes:

  • Sodium
  • Nvidium
  • Iris
  • EntityCulling
  • Particle Core
  • Enhanced Block Entities
  • JEI
  • REI
  • EMI
  • Mod Menu

When another mod already handles the same optimization area, SmoothCore can automatically disable overlapping modules to avoid duplicate work or conflicts.

Use:

/smoothcore compat

This shows detected mods, active integrations, and SmoothCore modules changed by compatibility rules.

💻 Client-Side Only

SmoothCore only needs to be installed on the client.

Servers do not need SmoothCore installed.

📦 Requirements

  • Minecraft
  • Fabric Loader
  • Fabric API
  • Java 25
