Spellgems
Adds fast and fun combat and utility magic that stays true to the vanilla Minecraft look & feel. Spells live on spell gems you craft, enchant, and can cast manually by wand or automated via spell dispenser.

About this project
What does Spellgems add?
Requirements
The Fabric version requires Fabric API. No dependencies for the NeoForge version.
JEI is highly recommended to view recipes but optional.
Gameplay
The philosophy behind the mod was to create magic spells that are intuitive and fun to use while keeping crafting mechanics simple and straightforward. It aims to mostly mimic vanilla Minecraft aesthetics and mechanics.
Getting started
First you need to obtain Mana Root from village loot chests. Plant it to grow more of it, you will need a lot. Mana Root can be smelted into Mana Essence in the furnace. This is needed for crafting and fueling the Mana Infuser.
The Mana Infuser will be used to produce Shimmersteel (infuse iron ingot with diamond), a crafting material for the tools and machines, and Raw Spell Gems (infuse amethyst with lapis lazuli), that you can then craft into the actual spells.
Tools and Machines
Wand
Your tool to cast spells. Casting costs durability. There is a new Recharge enchantment for the wand which passively repairs durability.
- Shift+right-click to open GUI to insert gems
- hold V + scroll to cycle selected gem
- you can define hotkeys for quick cast
Astral Bow
A bow that doesn't require any arrows in your inventory. Accepts crossbow enchantments instead of bow enchantments. Insert potion gems for tipped arrow effects.
- Shift+right-click to open GUI to insert gems
- hold V + scroll to cycle selected gem
Spell Dispenser
Automated casting of spells. Takes one gem, casts on redstone pulse. Has an internal inventory which is needed for some spells (e.g. Magnet, Plant, Place Block)
Spell Enchanting Table
Used to enchant your gems. Works similar to the vanilla enchanting table (but no bookshelves or anything required). Put gems or books inside to view enchantment options. Apply enchanted books to the gems in an anvil.
Combat Gems
- Projectile: a damaging projectile
- Nova: area damage and knockback around you
- Vortex: pull enemies toward where you aim
Enchantments
- Modifiers: changes how the spell behaves (e.g. shoot multiple projectiles)
- On-Hit: applies an effect on hitting a target (e.g. set target on fire)
Utility Gems
- Potion: any potion can be turned into a spell
- Blink: short-range teleport
- Magnet: pull items
- Place Block: place random block from hotbar
- Break Block
- Harvest: harvest crops in an area
- Plant: plant seeds in an area
- Grow: apply bone meal to crops in an area
- Feed: feed animals in an area
