About this project
What does Limen add?
LIMEN
LIMEN is a Backrooms-inspired liminal horror total conversion for Minecraft.
Instead of adding a separate dimension or a few themed blocks, LIMEN replaces much of the normal Minecraft experience with its own world generation, progression, interface, movement, equipment, and interaction systems.
Explore procedurally generated liminal environments, manage limited resources, solve environmental systems, and progress through increasingly unfamiliar spaces.
Beta 1.1
Beta 1.1 introduces Floor 1 — Poolrooms.
Floor 0 remains fully playable, while Floor 1 expands LIMEN with a new environment, new traversal, new progression systems, and a much larger focus on water, vertical exploration, and environmental interaction.
Floor 1 — Poolrooms Beta
Floor 1 currently includes:
- Procedurally generated Upper, Middle, and Lower sectors
- Flooded rooms, pools, underwater routes, and vertical traversal
- Custom water rendering and underwater visuals
- Environmental lighting and dark interior spaces
- Hydraulic and pressure-based progression systems
- Pressure Rig
- Survey systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Phase Synchronizer System
- Hatch Bus progression
- Air management during underwater exploration
- Flooded Lower-sector traversal and catwalk areas
- New ambient audio and environmental sound
- Floor-specific UI and interaction systems
The current Floor 1 beta ends after the main progression sequence.
The final Floor 1 encounter, final hatch sequence, and transition to Floor 2 are not yet included.
Floor 0 — Tutorial / Those Yellow Rooms
Floor 0 remains available as the first complete LIMEN floor.
It includes:
- Procedurally generated liminal environments
- Multiple room and sector types
- Environmental puzzles and power systems
- Keys, access items, and progression equipment
- Limited inventory and resource management
- Flashlights, batteries, medical supplies, and other equipment
- Custom movement and interactions
- Tape-based save / rewind system
- Fog-of-war maps without a live player marker
- Environmental events
- Custom loading screens, menus, HUD, and UI
Co-op — Beta
LIMEN includes experimental multiplayer through LAN and Steam.
Co-op is still in beta and has not been tested as extensively as single-player. Desync, connection issues, latency spikes, or other multiplayer bugs may occur.
All players must use the exact same LIMEN version.
Steam integration is optional and is not required for single-player or LAN play.
Compatibility
LIMEN is designed as a total conversion, not as a general-purpose content mod.
Compatibility with other mods and modpacks is not guaranteed, especially with mods that alter world generation, rendering, movement, inventory systems, UI, or multiplayer behavior.
For the intended experience, LIMEN should be played in a separate instance without other gameplay-changing mods.
