About this project

What does Better Combat Toggle add?

Better Combat Toggle

Better Combat Toggle is a small quality-of-life addon for Better Combat that lets individual players switch between Better Combat and vanilla combat without restarting the game or server.

There are already simple Better Combat togglers available. I made this version because I wanted the toggle to feel more integrated into normal gameplay, especially for multiplayer servers where different players may prefer different combat styles and also to prevent mistakes when it comes to killing animals when you're trying to work fast and break a fence post for example.

Features

Toggle Better Combat directly from your inventory screen

Clear green ON / red OFF inventory button

Small BC: ON / BC: OFF HUD indicator

Optional rebindable hotkey
Unbound by default
Works during normal gameplay and while the inventory is open
UI click sound when toggling

Green confirmation message when Better Combat is enabled

Red confirmation message when Better Combat is disabled

Per player combat preference

State persists across reconnects and player death

Uses Better Combat's supported per-player disable system

Commands

Every command affects only the player using it.

/combat — toggle Better Combat

/combat on — enable Better Combat

/combat off — disable Better Combat

/combat status — show your current combat mode

These commands do not require operator permissions.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • NeoForge
  • Better Combat 2.4.0+

Installation

For multiplayer, install Better Combat Toggle on both the server and client.

Better Combat must also be installed.

For singleplayer, install it normally alongside Better Combat.

Why another Better Combat toggle?

The basic idea of turning Better Combat on and off is not new. This mod is simply the version I wanted for my own multiplayer modpack: a visible inventory control, HUD status, optional hotkey, commands, colored feedback, and sound feedback all in one small addon.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome. If you would like to see Better Combat Toggle available for another Minecraft version or mod loader, feel free to leave a comment and let me know. If there is enough interest in a particular version, I will consider supporting depending on what is going on in my life at that time.
