Adaptive Functional Storage

Adaptive Functional Storage is an addon for Functional Storage that adds an FE-powered adaptive layer to an existing Functional Storage network. Functional Storage 1.5.5 or newer is required for this mod to work.

The goal is to keep the part of drawer storage that makes it useful at a glance while adding a more flexible digital layer on top of it. A linked Adaptive Matrix manages the adaptive side of the network, while ordinary Functional Storage drawers continue to work alongside it through the same Functional Storage Controller.

How It Works

Link an Adaptive Matrix to a Functional Storage Controller, then place Adaptive Drawers for the Matrix to manage. Adaptive Drawers connect to their Matrix automatically, so they do not need to be linked to the Functional Storage Controller one at a time.

Once connected, ordinary Functional Storage drawers and Adaptive Drawers are available together through the same network. The Storage Grid, Crafting Grid, Deposit Port, and Functional Storage Controller can all access the combined storage.

Adaptive Drawers keep the casing and divider design of the Functional Storage wood type they were created from, but replace the normal drawer faces with animated digital displays. Their visible layouts can adapt between 1×1, 2×1, and 2×2 arrangements as the adaptive network changes.

Adaptive Drawers

Adaptive Functional Storage includes adaptive versions of the following Functional Storage wood types:

• Oak
• Spruce
• Birch
• Jungle
• Acacia
• Dark Oak
• Mangrove
• Cherry
• Crimson
• Warped

Craft an Adaptive Upgrade together with a clean, matching Functional Storage drawer to create its adaptive version. Conversion recipes accept Functional Storage 1×1, 1×2, and 2×2 drawers, but drawers that already contain items, upgrades, or saved configuration are not valid conversion inputs.

Adaptive Drawers use animated powered screens, matching section edges, emissive treatment, and a solid-black offline state when the Matrix has no power.

Organization and Layouts

The Adaptive Matrix can organize drawer contents using several sorting modes, including:

• Count
• Mod
• Item ID
• Tag
• Category

Adaptive drawer faces support three layout behaviors:

• Balanced spreads item identities across the available drawers while minimizing unnecessary empty cells.
• Proportional gives larger collections more prominent faces while allowing smaller collections to share divided drawers.
• Manual allows drawer sizes, item locations, locked identities, and reserved cells to be configured with the Adaptive Configuration Tool.

When sorting by Count, the priority direction can also be changed so the largest collections appear toward a chosen side of the array.

Storage Grid

The Storage Grid provides searchable access to the complete linked Functional Storage network, including both ordinary Functional Storage drawers and storage managed by the Adaptive Matrix.

Crafting Grid

The Crafting Grid combines network storage access with crafting. It can use ingredients stored across the linked network and refills its crafting cells from network storage after crafting when possible.

Compatible EMI recipe transfer is supported for filling the crafting grid.

Deposit Port

The Deposit Port provides a simple insertion point for players and automation. Items inserted through it are routed into the complete Functional Storage network rather than only into the Adaptive Matrix.

Power

The Adaptive Matrix consumes 20 FE/t plus 5 FE/t for each linked, loaded Adaptive Drawer.

Using an empty hand on the Matrix reports its current FE/t consumption and stored energy.

If the Matrix loses power, stored contents remain safe. Adaptive network access and the powered drawer displays turn off until power returns, while the underlying storage remains intact.

Updating From 0.1.0

Back up any important worlds before updating from 0.1.0. Version 0.2.0 changes the network architecture and removes several prototype blocks from normal availability.

The old Extender, Armory Drawer, and Fluid Drawer are no longer obtainable through normal items, recipes, or the creative tab. Functional Storage's equivalent blocks are the intended options going forward.

Adaptive Functional Storage is a Functional Storage addon and is not intended to function as a standalone storage mod.

About the Project

This is my first Minecraft mod, so I am very open to feedback, bug reports, suggestions, and ideas for things that could be improved. If something feels awkward or you think there is a better way for part of the system to work, I genuinely want to hear it.

The addon's custom screens and visual identity were hand drawn by me. Its drawer casings, model structure, and some interface elements are based on or adapted from Functional Storage and Refined Storage so the addon feels at home beside the mods it extends. Applicable MIT notices are included with the project.

I am not an artist, and I would like to look into having a more polished, professional set of assets made in the future while keeping the same overall style and connection to Functional Storage.

Adaptive Functional Storage is released under GPL-3.0-only.

Applicable notices for incorporated or adapted MIT-licensed material are retained where required.

Adaptive Functional Storage is part of the Architects family of projects, a collection of tools and integrations intended to help modders and modpack creators connect existing systems together without forcing everything into a single monolithic mod.
