About this project

What does Doumi add?

Doumi

This mod brings inline preedit IME rendering to Minecraft 26.1+.

What is an IME, and what does this mod do?

From Wikipedia: "An input method editor is an operating system component or program that enables users to generate characters not natively available on their input devices by using sequences of characters that are available to them."

This is crucial for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean speakers, as those languages require more advanced functionalities to type. Fortunately, Minecraft has added support for IMEs (finally) on version 26.1, but it still isn't perfect.

IMEs typically send preedit (or uncommitted) text, which is text still being actively edited by the user, to applications. Most programs display this kind of text inline in the text box, seamlessly transitioning uncommitted text to committed text. However, Minecraft at its current state displays it in a separate box, breaking the illusion of seamless typing.

This mod aims to resolve this issue by drawing the preedit text where it is expected: within the text box. The preedit box rendering is disabled, and text input renderers are overhauled to immediately update on IME input.
