About this project
What does MarineMC add?
MarineMC
Be the DOOM marine in an ordinary Minecraft world.
No DOOM engine and no DOOM levels. This is Minecraft's world with DOOM's marine dropped into it. Run /marine (or use the book) and your player starts moving at DOOM's speed.
The numbers are transcribed from the original game rather than approximated. Thrust, friction and stopspeed come out of the source, the weapons draw from the same random table in the same order, and the monsters run their real state machines. Where something could not be matched exactly, the mod says so in its own in-game manual instead of quietly smoothing it over.
Everything belongs to the marine alone. A player who has not run /marine is completely untouched, which means the mod can sit in a world beside other character mods without changing how anyone else plays.
The marine
- Always-run, at roughly three times a sprint. Caps Lock toggles it, shift walks.
- No fall damage. A full block is a single step.
- No hunger
- No shields and no spears.
- Health in DOOM percent, where 100% is Steve's twenty hearts and soulspheres take you to 200%.
- changable marine colour
The full arsenal
Autoaim works the way DOOM's did
The bestiary
The Doom 2 roster with their own attacks, pain chances and infighting, including the ones that resurrect and the ones that spit others out.
They stay out of an ordinary world by default. Turn the doommode rule on and they start spawning naturally, with a bounty on them.
The status bar
DOOM's real status bar is present but slightly modified.
Stations
Four blocks you craft and use:
- Armor station, a teleporter pad that builds green armor and megaarmor over time.
- Medkit station, a table that turns food into stimpacks and medikits.
- Medbay, a two-block bay with sliding doors that heals you while you stand in it.
- Reclaimer, a vat that eats junk items and renders them into materials.
Each has a screen rendered from the WAD's own art rather than a vanilla panel.
The field manual
Every player is handed a book on their first join. It has chapters for the marine, ammo, health, the stations, the recipes, the bestiary, the world rules and the client settings, with live switches inside it for the things you are allowed to change.
Look and sound
All of this is client-side, optional, and set from the manual:
- The DOOM look. Light that falls away with distance in DOOM's own bands, or smoothly if you prefer. DOOM's skies, its palette, and the world drawn at 168 rows. Light levels and skies can be set per dimension.
- The music. Every music track from every WAD in your mods folder, played through your machine's own synthesizer, with its own volume. Drop a soundfont into
config/marinemcto change how it sounds.
Recording
support for Replaymod and Flashback is present
Requirements
| Minecraft | 26.2 |
| Loader | Fabric |
| Also needs | Fabric API |
| Java | 25 |
Install it on the server as well as the client. The marine's physics and his monsters both need a server that knows about them. In single player that happens on its own.
Installing
- Install the Fabric loader for Minecraft 26.2.
- Put Fabric API in your mods folder.
- Put
marinemc-1.6.jarin beside it, on the server too. - Run
/marine, and read the book it gives you.
About the art
Every sprite, sound and screen is read out of a WAD while the game runs, so the mod itself contains no id Software data.
Freedoom Phase 2 ships inside the jar, under its BSD licence, so the mod works the moment you install it and you need nothing else.
If you own DOOM, put DOOM2.WAD into the same mods folder and it takes over. Put DOOM.WAD, TNT.WAD or anything else beside it and their skies and music join the lists as well.
