About this project

What does Silent Sunken add?

Long ago, before there were villages at all, a people called the Precursors mastered something no one has matched since. They didn't build with steel or fight with force — they used sound. Vibration and resonance could shape stone, heal wounds, even carry them across distances.

Then something broke. A fracture ran through the world's own resonance, and it nearly destroyed them. The survivors made a hard choice: they buried their technology, they buried their language, and scattered into small farming villages so it could never happen again.

You already know their descendants. Every Villager grunt is a piece of a language nobody speaks anymore. Every emerald a Villager can't stop staring at used to be a tuning stone, a key part of the instruments that shaped the old world. None of it is gone. It's buried right under their feet — inside Crypts hidden at the heart of the villages they call home, that nobody living remembers digging.

Out in the world, far from any village, lie the ruins of something older still. Read them right, and they'll point you straight down — to whichever Crypt is nearest, waiting under a village that has no idea what it's standing on.

Silent Sunken won't hand any of this to you. You have to go and listen.

How It Works

It starts underground. Find a vein of Resonant Crystal Ore in a cave and mine it — there's a chance the vibration spreads on its own, scanning for more ore nearby. Turn what you find into a Resonant Crystal, and craft a Resonant Hammer.

Hit stone or deepslate with the Hammer, and a pulse spreads out from the impact. Anything hidden nearby lights up for a moment, pointing you toward a Ruin somewhere out in the world.

Inside a Ruin, look for a Resonant Crate. Right-click it and it tells you how to open it (usually by playing a specific sound nearby). Get it right and it's yours, sometimes along with a map pointing straight to the nearest Crypt.

Follow the map to a village, and dig down near its center. Reaching the Altar means working your way past four sealed Resonance Gates first. Once you're through, gather what the Altar needs, play the sound it's listening for, and complete the ritual.

Somewhere in the Crypt are shattered fragments in five colors: blue, green, red, yellow, and purple. Collect them, and they lead you to matching Raw Tablets. Bring a Raw Tablet to a Villager Historian: place a Phase Lectern in a village first to give a Villager the job, and after a few seconds of sound, it becomes a Gilded Tablet.

Features

  • Resonant Crystal Ore — Found underground in caves. Mining it has a chance to trigger a wider scan on its own, searching for more ore nearby.
  • Echo Sonar — Hit stone or deepslate with the Resonant Hammer to send out a scanning pulse. Anything hidden nearby lights up as a glowing outline, pointing you toward what's buried close by.
  • Ruins — Structures scattered across the world, with no fixed link to any village. Each one holds a Resonant Crate — right-click it for instructions on the sound needed to open it. Opening one sometimes gives you a map straight to the nearest Crypt.
  • Crypts — Hidden underground, roughly at the center of a village. Reaching the Altar inside means working past four sealed Resonance Gates first.
  • The Ritual — Gather what the Altar needs and play the right sound nearby. No precise timing required, just the right pieces and a sound played close enough.
  • Fragments & Raw Tablets — Crypts hold fragments in five colors: blue, green, red, yellow, and purple. Collecting them leads to matching Raw Tablets.
  • Villager Historian — Place a Phase Lectern in a village to give an unemployed Villager the job. Hand over a Raw Tablet, and a few seconds of sound turns it into a matching Gilded Tablet.

The ground remembers. Are you listening?
