About this project

What does Primal Era add?

Primal Era

Primal Era adds prehistoric creatures to Minecraft with animations, sounds, taming, mounts, natural families, and unique behaviors.

Currently, the mod includes:

  • Tyrannosaurus

  • Mammoth

  • Plesiosaurus

Requirements

  • Minecraft Java 1.21.1

  • NeoForge 21.1.220 or newer compatible version

  • GeckoLib 4.8.4

  • Java 21

Tyrannosaurus

An extremely powerful and dangerous terrestrial creature.

  • Health: 120 points — 60 hearts

  • Base Damage: 18 points — 9 hearts

  • Base Speed: 0.23

  • Habitat: Taiga biome family

  • Can naturally spawn as a family consisting of one adult and one baby

  • The adult aggressively protects its baby

  • Runs while chasing threats and uses a roar before combat

  • When mounted, it can push through and destroy leaves, but it does not break logs or player-built structures

How to Tame

Wild adult Tyrannosaurus cannot be tamed.

To obtain one:

  1. Explore Taiga biomes.

  2. Find a wild baby.

  3. Be careful with the adult protecting it.

  4. Feed the baby raw beef.

  5. Each piece of food has approximately a 10% chance of taming it.

  6. After taming it, continue feeding it to speed up its growth.

  7. Once fully grown, equip it with a saddle.

  8. Right-click to mount it.

A tamed Tyrannosaurus keeps the same owner when it grows into an adult.

You can also command it to sit using:

Shift + Right Click

Tyrannosaurus do not enter love mode and cannot breed using food.

Mammoth

A massive and resilient creature that can be ridden and carry large amounts of items.

  • Health: 70 points — 35 hearts

  • Base Trunk Damage: 9 points

  • Stomp Damage: 18 points

  • Base Speed: 0.20

  • Adult Visual Scale: 2x

  • Habitat: cold and snowy biomes

Mammoths can be found in:

  • Snowy Plains

  • Ice Spikes

  • Snowy Taiga

  • Grove

  • Frozen Peaks

  • Jagged Peaks

Wild Mammoths are herd animals. Attacking one individual may cause nearby Mammoths to react. Adults also protect their babies.

How to Tame

Wild adult Mammoths cannot be tamed.

To obtain one:

  1. Explore snowy regions.

  2. Find a Baby Mammoth.

  3. Be careful with the protective adult.

  4. Feed the baby wheat.

  5. Each piece of wheat has approximately a 10% chance of taming it.

  6. After taming it, use more wheat to speed up its growth.

  7. Once fully grown, equip it with a saddle.

  8. Right-click to mount it.

Use:

Shift + Right Click

to command your tamed Mammoth to sit or stand.

Mammoths do not enter love mode and cannot breed using wheat.

Mammoth Inventory

An adult tamed Mammoth has its own inventory with:

27 slots — 3 rows of 9

To open it:

  1. Be in Survival Mode.

  2. Mount your adult Mammoth.

  3. Press the key configured to open your inventory — E by default.

The storage:

  • belongs to the Mammoth itself;

  • remains saved after closing the world;

  • persists after the chunk is unloaded;

  • accepts items and tools normally;

  • supports quick item transfer with Shift + Click;

  • drops its contents if the Mammoth dies;

  • does not dismount the player when the interface is opened.

When mounted and moving, the Mammoth also breaks leaves blocking its path. Logs, structures, and other blocks remain intact.

Plesiosaurus

A large aquatic predator designed to behave like a true marine creature.

  • Health: 40 points — 20 hearts

  • Base Damage: 7 points

  • Normal Swimming Speed: 1.20

  • Chase Speed: 1.50

  • Habitat: oceans

  • Has three adult variants with scales of 1.50x, 1.75x, and 2.00x

  • All babies have the same size

It can spawn in normal, deep, cold, lukewarm, warm, and frozen oceans.

Aquatic Behavior

The Plesiosaurus:

  • swims and explores in all directions;

  • rises toward areas near the surface;

  • dives into deeper waters;

  • rests between exploration periods;

  • hunts occasionally;

  • chooses one target at a time;

  • has pauses and cooldowns between hunts;

  • may consider any living creature in the water as potential prey;

  • can attack swimming players.

Outside the water, it remains motionless and uses its surface animation. It does not walk, jump, or attempt to fly back toward the ocean.

How to Tame

Only Baby Plesiosaurus can be tamed.

Use:

  • cod;

  • salmon;

  • tropical fish.

Each fish has approximately a 10% chance of taming it.

Once tamed, the Plesiosaurus can follow its owner underwater and defend them or attack targets selected by the player. It will not follow its owner onto land.

Wild adult Plesiosaurus cannot be tamed, and the species cannot breed using food.
