About this project
What does TaCZ Performance & Polish add?
TaCZ Performance & Polish
Make TaCZ firefights smoother.
TaCZ Performance & Polish is a performance, visual polish, and quality-of-life addon for Timeless and Classics Zero on Forge 1.20.1.
It is built for players running large gun packs, lots of mobs, shaders, and heavy TaCZ addon stacks where automatic fire and large firefights can generate a huge amount of secondary visual work.
The goal is simple:
More gunfight. Less hitching.
TaCZ Performance & Polish reduces unnecessary shell, tracer, particle, bullet-hole, muzzle-flash, projectile-rendering, and HUD workload while allowing visual quality to scale back up when performance is healthy.
It complements TaCZ rather than replacing its weapon content.
v2.5 — Firefight Optimization
v2.5 is now live.
This release expands the original 2.0 performance foundation into a much more adaptive firefight optimization system.
Adaptive Firefight Performance
Performance & Polish can react to active TaCZ combat instead of waiting for framerate to collapse.
v2.5 includes:
Firefight-aware effect budgeting
Fire-rate-aware optimization for automatic weapons
RPM-based decorative effect scaling
FPS/load-based adaptive effect quality
Hysteresis to prevent rapid quality oscillation
Per-shot muzzle-flash budgeting
Automatic reduction of secondary visual work during sustained fire
Full-quality effects when sufficient performance headroom is available
High-RPM weapons can automatically receive more aggressive cosmetic optimization without changing their weapon stats.
Shell Casing Optimization
Shell casings now use smarter distance and lifetime management.
Features include:
Adaptive shell limits
Age-based shell rendering LOD
Distance-aware shell cleanup
Firefight-aware shell budgeting
Reduced shell workload during sustained automatic fire
The system focuses on reducing unnecessary decorative entities while keeping nearby gunfire visually responsive.
Bullet-Hole Management
Large firefights can create hundreds of impact decals very quickly.
v2.5 adds:
Configurable bullet-hole budgets
Near / mid / far lifetime tiers
Distance-aware lifetime scaling
Per-weapon lifetime scaling
Impact cleanup controls
Reduced distant decal workload
Nearby impacts can remain visible longer while distant or excessive impacts are cleaned up more aggressively.
Adaptive Tracers
Tracer quality now scales with combat conditions.
Features include:
Distance-aware tracer quality
Adaptive tracer rendering
Per-weapon tracer scaling
Firefight-aware tracer budgets
Reduced distant tracer workload
Performance-responsive quality changes
This keeps nearby gunfire readable without rendering every secondary effect at maximum quality during massive firefights.
Particle & Muzzle-Flash Optimization
v2.5 expands TaCZ-specific particle management with:
Adaptive particle quality
Performance-aware particle throttling
Underwater bullet-particle reduction
Muzzle-flash budgeting
Automatic-fire effect scaling
Global effect budgets
Gameplay-critical hit and damage processing is not dropped by these cosmetic budgets.
Performance Presets
v2.5 adds configurable effect-quality profiles:
AUTO — dynamically adjusts effects based on performance and combat load
PERFORMANCE — prioritizes maximum firefight performance
BALANCED — a middle ground between visuals and performance
QUALITY — preserves more effects while retaining safety limits
Individual systems can still be tuned beyond the global preset.
Per-Weapon Optimization
Different guns create very different workloads.
v2.5 adds weapon-aware tuning including:
Per-weapon effect multipliers
RPM-based weapon tiers
Tracer scaling
Shell scaling
Bullet rendering scaling
Bullet-hole lifetime scaling
Muzzle-flash scaling
A slow precision rifle no longer needs to be treated the same way as a high-RPM LMG or SMG.
ADS, FOV & Camera Polish
v2.5 also expands visual gunplay tuning with:
Improved ADS/FOV response profiles
Configurable transition behavior
Optional recoil-camera smoothing
Additional visual transition controls
Camera recoil smoothing is optional and disabled by default.
These features affect visual presentation rather than rewriting TaCZ weapon recoil values.
In-Game Configuration
v2.5 adds a full Forge Mods-menu configuration screen.
You can tune major Performance & Polish systems without manually editing configuration files.
This includes effect budgets, quality profiles, shell behavior, tracers, bullet holes, visual smoothing, debug tools, and other performance options.
Performance Debug HUD
For testing large modpacks and heavy TaCZ setups, v2.5 includes an optional live performance/debug overlay showing information such as:
Active effect counts
Current effect budgets
Suppressed effect counters
Firefight state
Performance pressure
Compatibility status
This is especially useful for tuning high-RPM weapons and large automatic-fire battles.
Renderer Compatibility
Performance & Polish is designed to coexist with common performance and rendering mods including:
Embeddium
Oculus
Accelerated Rendering
Compatibility is intentionally non-invasive.
Performance & Polish does not replace their renderer internals and leaves their own TaCZ integrations authoritative wherever possible.
What v2.5 Does NOT Intentionally Change
The core performance systems do not intentionally change:
Weapon damage
Accuracy
Penetration
Ammo consumption
Server-side bullet collision
Projectile trajectory
Ballistics
Hit registration
Weapon recoil values
Distant projectile optimization affects client rendering, not whether the projectile continues to simulate normally.
Performance & Polish is designed to optimize the presentation and workload surrounding TaCZ gunfights without becoming a replacement weapon system.

Improved gun-pack diagnostics
Adaptive combat systems
Further profiling-driven optimization
After 3.5, development is expected to focus primarily on compatibility, regression fixes, performance improvements, and maintenance rather than continuously expanding the scope of the mod.
Built for Heavy TaCZ Setups
Performance & Polish is especially aimed at players using:
Large TaCZ gun packs
High-RPM weapons
Large mob battles
Shaders
Multiple TaCZ addons
Performance-heavy modpacks
If TaCZ works fine until thirty mobs show up and the machine gun comes out, this is the kind of workload Performance & Polish is being built around.
More gunfight. Less hitching.
