About this project
What does Fallout Enemy HUD and Mutations add?

Fallout Enemy HUD and Mutations
A Fallout flavoured combat layer for Minecraft. Enemies get a target readout, a stealth
indicator, mid fight mutations and higher ranked variants that can outclass you.
Everything is built from vanilla parts. No new items, no new models, no new textures,
no dependencies.
TARGET READOUT
Look at any mob within 25 blocks and its name appears at the top of the screen, above a
health bar held in an open bracket
When a boss bar is on screen the readout drops below it automatically, one bar at a time.
STEALTH INDICATOR
While crouching, a readout appears above your crosshair. The brackets sit wide apart when
the nearest threat is far away and close in tight as it approaches.
HIDDEN means nothing hostile is within range.
CAUTION means hostiles are nearby but none has noticed you.
DANGER means something is hunting you.
LEGENDARY ENEMIES
Roughly 4 percent of hostile spawns are legendary. Each carries one of eight prefixes that
changes its stats and gives it a signature vanilla particle, so you can tell them apart mid
fight: Mutated, Savage, Quick, Sturdy, Bloodied, Vampiric, Explosive and Relentless.
Drop one below half health and it gets a single chance to mutate. The blow is negated, it
heals to full, gains Strength, Speed and Resistance, and its name becomes Legendary with a
star. A mob that fails the roll never mutates. Mutation only fires while a player is
genuinely in the fight, so nothing transforms out of sight.
Bosses take part too. A legendary Wither is rare and brutal.
ELITE RANKS
A separate axis, around 8 percent of spawns. Elites are far tougher versions of the same
mob, marked with a skull, wearing real armour, and they do not mutate on their own. There
are eight ranks, and the higher ones are genuinely rare.
Tough has 1.6 times the health and 1.2 times the damage.
Hardened has 2.2 times the health and 1.4 times the damage.
Seasoned has 2.8 times the health and 1.6 times the damage.
Veteran has 3.4 times the health and 1.85 times the damage.
Elite has 4 times the health and 2 times the damage.
Commandant has 4.6 times the health and 2.25 times the damage.
Warlord has 5.4 times the health and 2.5 times the damage.
General has 6.2 times the health and 2.8 times the damage.
The systems stack. An elite that is also legendary and mutates reads as a Legendary
Commandant Skeleton.
LEGENDARY GEAR
Legendary mobs carry weapons and armour with real effects, which they fight with, drop, and
which keep working once you are the one holding them.
Weapons: Explosive, Freezing, Wounding, Plagued, Vampire's, Crippling, Staggering and
Executioner's.
Armour: Sentinel's, Unyielding, Chameleon, Cushioned, Powered and Thorned.
LOOT WORTH HUNTING
A legendary kill drops an over enchanted signature piece plus supplies. Enchantments
deliberately break the vanilla ceiling, so Protection VI and Sharpness VII show up at levels
no enchanting table or anvil can reach. A mutated kill is worth double, including double the
mob's own normal drops.
You can also write your own per mob rules in the config, in plain text. A line like
"minecraft:wither ; minecraft:nether_star ; 1.0 ; 3-4" gives every legendary Wither three to
four extra nether stars.
WORKS WITH OTHER MODS
Eligibility is based on the hostile mob interface rather than a hard coded list, so
aggressive mobs from other mods join in automatically. Loot goes through the mob's own loot
table using a Global Loot Modifier, which means Looting, datapacks and other mods' loot
hooks all still apply, and the mutation bonus doubles modded drops too.
CONFIGURATION
Two files. The common one holds the rules and is the copy that counts on a server. The
client one holds the HUD, so every player controls their own display, including colours,
which accept either hex values or Minecraft dye names.
Every system has its own switch, so you can run only the parts you want. Spawn rates and
stat scaling are tunable, and everything scales with world difficulty. Hard worlds get more
of them, and stronger.
COMMANDS
/mutate legendary (targets) (prefix)
/mutate elite (targets) (rank)
/mutate (targets)
/mutate clear (targets)
BEFORE YOU INSTALL
This is a 0.9.0 release and still settling. One note that matters: stat changes are written
into mobs as permanent attribute modifiers, so if you remove the mod, run /mutate clear @e
in loaded chunks first. Otherwise any legendary or elite already in your world stays renamed
and buffed with nothing left to clean it up.
Bug reports and balance feedback are very welcome.
