About this project

What does Scale Of Tools add?

image

A small client-side mod: warns you when your tool is about to break.

You're digging, building, fighting—and suddenly your shovel, pickaxe, or sword breaks at the most inopportune moment. Scale of Tools monitors the durability of your tool and displays a notification in advance, so you can repair or replace it.

Works on a clean client: no server installation required. This mod is fair—no cheats, just convenience.

How it works

  • When the durability of the tool in your active hand drops below a threshold (default 10), a message appears in the action bar:
  • "Almost broken: Diamond Pickaxe - 10 remaining"
  • Both your primary and secondary hands are checked—the tool won't break unnoticed.
  • To prevent spamming notifications during long digging sessions, they are repeated no more than once every 3 seconds (the interval is configurable).
  • Tools with "infinite" durability (e.g., enchanted netherite) are correctly ignored.

Compatibility

Minecraft Version Mod File
1.20.1 ScaleOfTools-1.20.1-fabric.jar
1.21.4 ScaleOfTools-1.21.4-fabric.jar
  • This mod is client-side and loads only on Fabric.
  • The Fabric API is not required — fabric-loader is sufficient.
  • Java 17 (for 1.20.1) or 21 (for 1.21.4).
  • Vanilla servers require no modification.

Installation

  1. Install Fabric Loader (fabricmc.net) for your version of Minecraft.
  2. Download the mod's .jar for your game version (see the table above).
  3. Place the jar in the .minecraft/mods folder.
  4. Launch the game – warnings are enabled immediately.

Settings

After the first launch, the file config/scaleoftools.json will appear. Function parameters:

  • durabilityWarn – on/off (default is true).
  • durabilityThreshold – remaining durability at which a warning is triggered (default is 10).
  • durabilityWarnInterval – notification repeat interval in ticks (60 = 3 seconds).

Example:

{
"durabilityWarn": true,
"durabilityThreshold": 10,
"durabilityWarnInterval": 60
}

Why "Scale of Tools"

Translated from Dutch, it means "scale of tools." The mod monitors the durability of your tools to ensure they never break unexpectedly.
