⚠️About Version 1.0.0

1.0.0 is a test version that is not recommended for playing. It may give you a poor gameplay experience.

In version 1.0.0:

① All vanilla wheat and grass drop gametes/hybrid seeds. This breaks many vanilla mechanics; for example, farmer villagers cannot plant.

② Hybrid crops cannot be composted.

③ Many remaining minor defects and bugs.

Please use version 1.1.0 or later.

Crossbreeding

Bring Mendelian genetics into Minecraft. Every wheat plant has its own genome — breed, cross, and cultivate your own super wheat.

Quick Start

  1. Break grass → 25% chance to drop a crossbreeding seed (vanilla seeds still drop as usual)
  2. Plant → on farmland, just like vanilla wheat
  3. Inspect → hold a stone hoe and right-click a mature plant
  4. Harvest → break mature wheat to get crossbreeding wheat + 2–3 gametes
  5. Cross → craft 1 female gamete + 1 male gamete → new seed
  6. Bake → craft bread from crossbreeding wheat; quality depends on genes

Note: Vanilla wheat and vanilla seeds are unaffected. Only grass drops and crossbreeding crops produce the new items.

Genetics Basics

Each wheat has 6 gene pairs, written as 12 characters, e.g. AaBbccDdEeFF.

  • Uppercase = dominant, lowercase = recessive
  • A pair shows the dominant trait if at least one uppercase allele is present
  • A pair shows the recessive trait only if both alleles are lowercase

Gene Reference

Gene pair Dominant (uppercase) Recessive (lowercase)
A / a Many ears Few ears
B / b Disease resistant Non-resistant
C / c Low nutrition High nutrition
D / d Low saturation High saturation
E / e Thick husk Thin husk
F / f Fast growth Slow growth

Bold = the "good" trait. A, B, F good traits are dominant; C, D, E good traits are recessive.

Trait Effects

Trait Effect
Many ears (A_) Extra 2–3 crossbreeding wheat
Few ears (aa) No extra drop
Resistant (B_) Never wilts during growth
Non-resistant (bb) 1/2 chance to wilt during early growth
High nutrition (cc) Bread gives +2 extra hunger
High saturation (dd) Bread gives +2 extra saturation
Thin husk (ee) 1 wheat per bread
Thick husk (E_) 3 wheat per bread
Fast growth (F_) Double growth speed

Bread Crafting

All input wheat must satisfy the requirement, otherwise you get plain bread.

Condition Count Result
All ee + cc + dd 1 or 3 High Nutrition & Saturation Bread
All cc 1 or 3 High Nutrition Bread
All dd 1 or 3 High Saturation Bread
Otherwise 1 or 3 Crossbreeding Bread

Count is determined by the first wheat: thin husk (ee) uses 1, thick husk (E_) uses 3.

Inspect with Stone Hoe

Hold a stone hoe and right-click a mature plant. Chat shows:

位于(10,64,20)的小麦
表型:多穗、抗病、高饱食、高饱和、多壳、生长旺盛

Click the message to copy it to your clipboard (in simple mode, the genotype is included).

Simple Mode

Requires OP level ≥ 2:

/crossbreeding simple true enable
/crossbreeding simple false disable

When enabled:

  • Stone hoe right-click also shows the genotype
  • Gametes, seeds, and wheat show genotype in tooltips
  • Click-to-copy includes the genotype

State is saved per-world.

Gene Debug Stick (Creative only)

Obtain: Creative "Op Blocks" tab, or /give @s crossbreeding:gene_debug_stick.

Usage:

  1. Hold the stick
  2. Left-click: cycle the gene locus Aa → Bb → Cc → Dd → Ee → Ff → Aa
  3. Right-click a crossbreeding crop: cycle the pair AA → Aa → aa

The current state briefly appears above the hotbar.

Advancements

Name Condition
9331 Obtain a crossbreeding seed for the first time
Cross Two gametes from different plants
Self Two gametes from the same plant
Recessive from Dominant Both parents dominant, offspring recessive
Ahead of Time 1 thin-husk wheat crafted into a High Nutrition & Saturation Bread
Creative Compensation Use the Gene Debug Stick for the first time
Server Started Plant a vanilla potato for the first time
