About this project
What does Zombie plague add?
Zombie Plague
Zombie hits are now more than just a health bar problem.
Zombie Plague adds a five-stage infection that takes twelve minutes to turn a player into an actual zombie.
Everything is optional. Out of the box the mod does not touch vanilla spawning at all, so it drops into an existing pack without fighting anyone else's mods.
The infection
- A grab is guaranteed. Any zombie in swing range can latch on, lock your movement and start a countdown. Mash WASD to throw it off before the bite lands
- Eating rotten flesh while infected accelerates it
- Standing in a Bloated zombie's gas for three seconds
The five stages
| Stage | Time | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0:00 | Exposure. Occasional hunger, almost nothing |
| 2 | 3:00 | Fever. Weakness, bouts of nausea |
| 3 | 6:00 | Convulsions. Your model starts shaking |
| 4 | 9:00 | Collapse. Your arms rise and zombies stop hunting you |
| 5 | 12:00 | Turned. You are one of them |
The shake is the same one vanilla plays on a converting zombie villager or a zombifying piglin.
Being a zombie
- You burn in daylight unless you're wearing a helmet
- Every hostile mob ignores you. Skeletons, creepers, spiders, illagers etc
- Villagers panic and run indoors. Iron golems hunt you
- Your attacks spread the plague to other players and turn villagers
- Bloated gas heals you instead of hurting you
One status effect covers all of it, so your effects list stays readable.
Going feral
Off by default.
Turn on zombiePlagueFeralOnStarve and a turned player who reaches zero hunger loses the control. AI will take control of the zombie use player skin, their name and their armour.
Your entire inventory goes with the body. Getting it back means you have to hunt down a zombie with your face on it.
Hold Shift (Or Sprint if you use different keys bind) for a second to respawn.

Commands
/plague info, /plague stage <0-5>, /plague infect, /plague cure, /plague advance <ticks>, /plague corpses clear|rise, /plague reload
Configuration
Around fifty values in config/zombieplague.json: stage timings, infection chances, grab difficulty, gas cloud size, corpse decay, spawn weights, and which stage each symptom appears at. /plague reload applies most edits without a restart.
Required on both the server and every client. The shaking, the raised arms, corpse rendering and the HUD are all client-side.
Multiplayer
Untested but should be working.
