About this project

What does Future Trading add?

Future Trading brings the villager trading of Minecraft 1.14+ to Forge 1.12.2. Villagers earn experience for every trade and unlock the next tier only when they reach a threshold — no more "trade once, get everything". The trading screen is the 1.14 one: every offer in a scrollable list on the left, a click puts the payment into the slots, and the villager's level and XP bar sit in the title. All 13 professions with their 1.14 trades, adapted to the items that exist in 1.12.2 — and their 1.14 job blocks: a villager takes a job from a blast furnace, a lectern or a loom placed next to it, just like in 1.14.

Trading screen

How it works

  • Job blocks, like 1.14: place a profession's job block (see the table below) near a villager that has never traded. The nearest one within 8 blocks takes the job — green particles, a happy "yes" — and stays bound to that block until it dies or the block is broken. Break the block before the villager has traded and it goes back to a regular vanilla profession, free to take another job; a villager that has already traded keeps its profession for good. Nitwits never take a job (configurable). No sneak-clicking, no items — the block is the job.
  • The blocks: the mod adds the eleven job blocks of 1.14 — blast furnace, smoker, cartography table, composter, barrel, fletching table, lectern, stonecutter, loom, smithing table and grindstone — with their 1.14 textures, models and crafting recipes (smooth stone is replaced by stone). They are decorative: no smelting or GUIs, they are there to give villagers jobs and to look right. Brewing stand and cauldron are the vanilla ones.
  • Already have Future Versions or Future MC? Then their blocks are the job sites and this mod's own blocks are not registered at all — no duplicates in the creative menu or in JEI. Future MC has no lectern, so the librarian falls back to a bookshelf; any profession whose block is missing uses a vanilla stand-in (in brackets in the table).
  • Levelling: Novice → Apprentice → Journeyman → Expert → Master at 10 / 70 / 150 / 250 XP. A trade where the villager pays emeralds gives 2 / 10 / 20 / 30 / 30 XP by tier, a trade where it sells an item gives 1 / 5 / 10 / 15 / 30 — the 1.14 numbers. The level-up happens a couple of seconds after you close the screen, with the regeneration effect and particles, just like vanilla.
  • Random offers: on every level a villager picks two offers out of that level's pool, and prices, enchantments and colours are rolled once per villager — two librarians never sell the same books.
  • Trading screen: offer list with a scrollbar, out-of-stock marks, item tooltips, an XP bar with a preview of what the selected trade will give; a click moves the required items from your inventory into the payment slots (up to a full stack).
  • Levelling and the new screen also apply to vanilla 1.12 villagers and to villagers from other mods (they keep their own trades). Both can be switched off in the config.
