About this project

What does Iourus Crops add?

🌾 Iourus Crops

Bring medieval agriculture to Minecraft and build the foundations of a deeper food system.

Iourus Crops expands Minecraft's farming with crops inspired by medieval agriculture, introducing new grains, specialized plants, seasonal growth, and different harvesting mechanics while preserving the simplicity and visual identity of vanilla Minecraft.

Rather than being a cooking mod, Iourus Crops focuses on the agricultural foundation of the Iourus ecosystem: growing the ingredients and raw materials that future culinary, brewing, nutrition, and economic systems can build upon.

🌱 Medieval Crops

Expand your farmland with crops based on plants that played an important role in medieval agriculture.

Current crops include:

🌾 Barley
🌾 Rye
🌾 Oats
🍇 Grapes
🌿 Hops

These crops aren't intended to be simple alternatives to wheat.

Each one is designed to eventually have its own place within food production, brewing, animal feeding, trade, and other systems across Iourus.

🌾 Different Types of Agriculture

Not every plant behaves like wheat.

Traditional grains grow directly on farmland, while specialized crops such as grapes and hops use their own growth and harvesting mechanics.

Some plants can remain established after reaching maturity, allowing them to produce multiple harvests instead of requiring players to constantly destroy and replant them.

The goal is to make different forms of agriculture actually feel different.

🍂 Seasonal Farming

Agriculture follows the seasons.

Different crops have their own growing periods, requiring players to consider when they prepare their fields and what they choose to plant.

Crops planted outside their appropriate season may remain dormant until favorable conditions return.

This transforms farming from an unlimited year-round resource into something that requires planning and preparation.

🌤️ Serene Seasons Integration

Iourus Crops is designed with Serene Seasons integration, allowing crop growth to respond naturally to seasons and sub-seasons.

When seasonal gameplay is enabled, agricultural cycles become part of the survival experience.

Players must adapt their farms throughout the year rather than relying on the same crops indefinitely.

🦴 Natural Growth

Agriculture takes time.

Bone meal cannot be used to instantly advance Iourus crops, preventing players from bypassing their natural growth cycles.

Planting at the right moment and allowing enough time before the seasons change becomes an important part of managing farmland.

🔄 Recurring Harvests

Certain crops are designed around recurring production.

Instead of destroying the entire plant during every harvest, established crops such as grapes and hops can continue producing after being harvested.

This allows players to create permanent vineyards and hop fields alongside traditional grain farms.

🏰 Foundation for Medieval Food Production

Iourus Crops is not a cooking mod.

Instead, it provides the agricultural foundation for a larger culinary system.

Barley, rye, oats, grapes, hops, and future crops are intended to become raw ingredients used by other systems for producing food, beverages, and processed goods.

Crops provides the fields.

Future Iourus systems will determine what happens after the harvest.

💰 Agriculture as an Economy

Crops aren't valuable only because they restore hunger.

Agricultural products are designed to become resources that can be produced, processed, traded, and incorporated into the broader Iourus economy.

This creates room for players to specialize as farmers and supply other professions and settlements with the raw materials they need.

🎮 Vanilla-Friendly, Medieval-Inspired

Iourus Crops doesn't attempt to replace Minecraft farming with a complicated simulation.

The goal is to preserve Minecraft's accessible farming mechanics while adding enough depth to make agriculture feel like an important part of a medieval fantasy world.

Fields should still look and feel at home in Minecraft, but the decisions behind them become more meaningful.

🛡️ Gameplay Philosophy

Iourus Crops is built around a simple idea:

Agriculture should be the beginning of a production chain, not the end of one.

Farmers cultivate the land.

They produce the raw materials.

Other professions transform those materials into something more valuable.

By separating agriculture from cooking and production, each system can develop its own identity and create opportunities for specialization between players.

📖 Part of the World of Iourus

Iourus Crops is part of the larger Iourus ecosystem, a collection of interconnected mods designed to transform Minecraft into a living medieval fantasy RPG sandbox.

Its agricultural systems are designed to provide the foundation for future cooking and brewing while connecting naturally with Iourus Progression's nutrition and professions, Iourus Economy, settlements, trade, and other production systems.

Cultivate the land. Follow the seasons. Build the foundation of a medieval world.
