Sealed Word Orb adds a single-use item that stores a command. An administrator sets the command, its execution permission level, and an optional description, then saves and seals the orb. Players can right-click the sealed orb to use it.

Find it in the Sealed Word Orb creative inventory tab, or have an administrator run:

/give @s sealedwordorb:sealed_word_orb

Players who meet the editing requirements can right-click a blank orb in either hand to open its editor.

How to use

Editing requires creative mode and command permission level 2 or higher.

Field	Rules
Command	Required. The leading / is optional. An empty command, or / on its own, cannot be saved.
Permission level	Accepts 0–4; leaving it blank defaults to 2. It cannot exceed the editor's own permission level.
Item description	Optional. Leaving it blank adds no custom description.

Select Save and seal to write all three fields and the Modified marker to the item's NBT. Selecting Cancel or pressing Esc leaves the item unchanged.

An orb without the Modified marker remains in its default, unsealed state. Once the marker is present, the orb becomes read-only and no longer opens the editor. Any holder can right-click it to attempt the stored command.

Orbs are single-use. Using one consumes it even if the command contains an error or fails to execute. If the orb's own data is corrupt, execution is refused and the item is kept.

Not that a broken orb is much use anyway.

Using orbs across worlds

Have an administrator configure and seal an orb, then test whether its command works in the intended environment.

If it does, use that orb's complete item data as a quest reward, preserving the command, permission level, description, and Modified marker. All of this information is stored in NBT, allowing the orb to be transferred between worlds.

Yes, that means you can use it as an FTB Quests reward.

This example uses a vanilla command. For commands from other mods, install the mod that provides the command and meet its permission and execution requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Can players without operator permissions use an orb?

Yes. A properly sealed orb executes with its saved permission level, rather than the holder's own level. It can still fail if the command requires a higher level than the one stored in the orb, or if a permissions plugin applies additional checks.

Will quest rewards still work after I distribute my modpack?

Orbs are not bound to a player, world, or server. Their complete NBT can be copied into a new world.

Can I change the command after saving?

The normal interface does not allow sealed orbs to be edited again. To change the command, start with a new blank orb.

Are there any risks?

To support transfers between worlds and modpack creation, orbs store their information solely in NBT. A malicious creative-mode client or an external NBT editor can therefore forge that data.
