About this project
What does Vaskars Remains add?
Corpses all over your world, waiting to be found and looted.
Vaskars Remains fills your world with the dead. A traveller frozen in the snow, miners who never made it out of the mineshaft, a camp nobody came back to. They lie where they fell with their things still on them, and every one of them shows you how it happened. Search them, drag them away, or string them up. And when you die, you leave a body too.

Find them
Bodies turn up on their own, rare enough that finding one means something:
- frozen in the snow, lost in the forest, drowned on the beach
- down in caves, mineshafts, dungeons, the Deep Dark and dripstone caverns
- out in the desert and the swamp
Further out are the places where something happened: abandoned camps, crosses by the road, gallows, hanging trees, graves, shipwrecks, raided caravans and small battlefields. Humans, elves and orcs, in dozens of outfits.

Loot them
Pockets, weapon, armour, and whatever is still stuck in them. Every click takes one thing, so you watch them come apart piece by piece. The rich ones carry more, and their names are written in gold.
Don't wait too long. The dead rot where they lie: fresh, bloated, opened, tattered, bones. Going through a rotting one can turn your stomach. The cold keeps them fresh.
See how they died
Stabbed, slashed, beheaded, burnt, frozen, drowned, crushed, poisoned, mauled or starved: you can read it on every body. Blood pools under the fresh ones and washes away in the rain. Some still have the arrow in them that killed them.

Drag them away, or string them up
- Drag a body along the ground: sneak and use an empty hand. It is heavy, and a fresh one leaves a trail of blood.
- String it up from a fence or a ceiling with a lead.
- Nail it to a wall with an arrow, a sword, a trident, an axe or a pickaxe.
- Take it whole with Silk Touch, everything still on it, and put it down somewhere else.
Whatever dies falls away from the blow and stays in the pose it landed in: slumped over a step, against a wall, half off a ledge.

Your own body
When you die, you leave a body too, in your own skin, with everything you had: your inventory, your armour, your experience, and what other mods had on you (Curios and the like). One click puts it all back where it was, armour back on. Explosions can't destroy it, and if you fall into the void it floats at the edge of the world, waiting for you.
Your world, your rules
- How brutal, from bones only to everything, is chosen when you create the world.
- Monster corpses for zombies, skeletons and other humanoid mobs: off by default, one gamerule to turn on. Mob farms are recognised, so your grinder doesn't bury you in bodies.
- Blood trails, decay, searching, dragging and more can be switched off.
- Using another grave mod? Remains notices (Corpse, GraveStone, Tombstone, YIGD) and leaves your own deaths to it.
For builders
In creative, clicking a body opens an editor: how far gone it is, how it died, who it was, and a pose you shape limb by limb. Outfits, poses and loot are data pack files.

Compatibility
- Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge
- Needed on client and server
- Works with Curios and JEI
- With Vaskars Bestiary installed, Skarrn's burnt clearing turns up with the dead in it
Modpacks: yes, go ahead. A link back is appreciated.
Want the living world too? Vaskars Opus
Vaskars Opus builds a whole world at war on top of Remains. The dead are only half of it:
- Five peoples: Lord Barrow's humans, the Black Tusk orcs, the elves, the Ashen of the Nether and the Voidborn of the End, each with its own villages, camps and magic
- A war that goes on without you: patrols, raids, caravans, bandits and adventurers on the roads
- Trade, tasks and oaths: earn a people's trust, swear an oath, hire their fighters
- Six ruler boss fights in their own castles, war camps and strongholds
- The Chronicle: the stories of the fallen, read off their bodies, and an atlas of everywhere you have been
Opus already contains Remains and Vaskars Bestiary, so you don't need to install them separately.
