About this project

What does Smartmaid add?

Smart Maid — your own AI maid in Minecraft

Smart Maid adds a single, loyal maid to your Minecraft world. You summon her with one command, and from that moment she is bound to you: she follows you, fights for you, and — most importantly — actually does the work you give her. She mines, farms, builds, crafts, smelts, collects items and stores them in chests, all while watching your back.

Everything gameplay-critical runs on a fast local rule engine, so she reacts in milliseconds, never lags, and works fully offline — no internet, no account, no AI service required. Artificial intelligence is only an optional bonus layer on top (see “Optional chat & voice” below).

This is not a cosmetic companion that stands around looking cute. It changes how you actually play: you gain a capable second pair of hands you can order to do real, visible labour, plus a bodyguard who blocks arrows and fights with a sensible combat brain.

How it changes your game (with examples)

  • Caught in a cave? A skeleton fires at you — your maid spots the incoming arrow and raises her shield on the spot to block it. The vanilla 0.25-second shield-raise delay is removed, so even point-blank arrows are stopped. If a creeper is about to blow up next to you, she moves in and shields you from the blast.
  • Building a base? Point her at a spot and order place. She follows your placement orders and helps raise walls while you work on a different side of the build.
  • Low on resources? Send her mining — she auto-detects nearby ores and picks them up. Or set her to farming, and she harvests and replants for you.
  • Inventory overflowing? She has a full 41-slot inventory and a transfer command: take items off your hands, equip gear, and move whole stacks into a chest (with a real opening animation).
  • Want hands-off jobs? The optional AI layer turns a plain-language goal into a multi-step plan — “find a tree, chop it, keep looking until you have enough logs” — and reports back after every step. Without the AI layer, you can still issue each atomic command yourself.
  • Travelling rough terrain? Normal mobs get stuck on gaps and ledges. Your maid leaps 1–3 block gaps, climbs 1-block steps and drops off small cliffs to stay with you — and if the path is truly blocked, she digs through or pillars over it.

Features in detail

One maid, and she is yours

/summonmaid spawns a single maid bound to you — one per player, no taming, no breeding. Log out and she vanishes; her inventory and equipment are saved locally every 5 seconds and restored exactly when you summon her again. Right-click to seat her down or stand her up.

Combat that actually works

A rule-driven combat brain with the priority shield > eat > ranged > melee > close in:

  • Blocks incoming arrows and creeper explosions with her shield, with no raise delay.
  • Melee keeps a 2.7–3.2 block dead zone: she steps in to hit, backs off, circles around corners, and backflips onto 1-block ledges.
  • Ranged: she charges and fires her own bow while kiting backwards.
  • Auto-eats at half health, and unconditionally counterattacks whoever hits you. Her arrows can never hurt you.

Jump pathfinding that just works

Custom pathfinding treats gaps and ledges as walkable: she leaps 1–3 block gaps, climbs 1-block steps and drops 1–3 blocks. Takeoff solutions are precomputed offline, so at runtime she only looks them up — no physics hiccups, no wall-hugging. If vanilla pathing fails, she falls back to a straight-line route and digs or pillars her way through.

Put her to work

/maidtasks drives real labour with visible progress: mining (auto-detects nearby ores), farming, building, collecting, crafting, smelting, and chest storage with smart stacking. Tasks run as multi-step jobs with structured per-step reports, so you always know what she is doing.

A real inventory

41 slots laid out exactly like the player’s, with a live model preview in the corner. One transfer command covers swapping hands, equipping armour and looting; two-step chest interaction comes with a real opening animation.

A settings menu that belongs to you

Shift + right-click opens a wooden maid panel: friendly fire, auto-follow distances, guard mode, max health, food and regen speed, death drops — all per-player and saved automatically.

Bonus: 11 emotes

/maidanim plays waving, clapping, a backflip, dances and more (animation data from the open-source Emotecraft project).

Optional chat & voice (requires the free DeskPet app)

The maid works completely on her own. Chatting with her by text or voice is optional and requires my separate, free, open-source desktop program DeskPet (github.com/oyxdsg/Multimodal-AI-Companion) running on the same PC. Without it, every other feature works exactly the same.

Commands

  • /summonmaid — summon your maid (requires operator / permission level 2)
  • /maidtasks <task> — order work: attack, guard, feed, eat, mine, farm, build, collect, craft, smelt, transfer, chest open/put/take, move, look, break, place, use, equip, store, drop, pickup, sit, stop, cancel, status
  • /maidai <json> — JSON command protocol used by the AI layer (operator)
  • /maidchat — toggle chat mode (requires DeskPet)
  • /maidanim <name> — play an emote (operator)
  • /maidperception — dump a perception snapshot for debugging (operator)

Requirements

  • Minecraft 26.2 (Java Edition) with Fabric Loader 0.18.4+ and Fabric API
  • Java 25 or newer
  • Operator permission (level 2) to summon and command the maid. In single-player, enable cheats (or be OP on a server). This prevents strangers from spawning maids on other people’s servers.
  • Optional: the DeskPet desktop app for AI chat and voice.

Scope & limitations

  • Installed on the client (client required; server optional).
  • Only one maid per player, by design.
  • The maid is not a villager or a tamable mob — she exists only while you are online.
